Setup

  • Shuffle the 16 dog-name cards (printed on both sides) and set them aside.
  • Shuffle the 50 dog cards and place them face down as a draw stack.
  • The source gives the dog pictures as follows: 9 dog pictures appear 4 times each, and 7 dog pictures appear 7 times each.

Gameplay

  • One player is the dealer. At a pace of his choosing, the dealer lays out dog cards face up, spread out on the table.
  • All players, including the dealer, try at the same time to find 2 exactly identical dogs.
  • A player who sees 2 identical dogs calls out loudly "BELLO" and immediately points to the cards in question.
  • The game stops and all players check the cards.

If the call is CORRECT:

  • The player takes the cards face down as points.
  • As a handicap, he receives the top dog-name card.
  • If he later finds 2 identical dogs that match one of his dog-name cards, he must call that dog's name instead of "BELLO". For dogs he does not yet have a dog-name card for, he continues to call "BELLO".

If the call is WRONG:

  • The player hands over 1 dog card, if he has one.
  • Otherwise, the player sits out until another player has been able to score.
  • If only the name was called wrongly and the pair matches, one of the two identical dog cards is additionally shuffled back into the stack.

Simultaneous calls:

  • 2 players call at the same time and both are correct: each player receives 1 card. No dog-name card is awarded.
  • 3 or more players call at the same time and are correct: no cards are awarded. Collect all cards from the table and shuffle them back in. The dealer lays out cards again.

End of the Game

  • The game ends immediately when the dog-card stack has only 5 cards left.
  • The winner is the player with the most cards (points).
  • In a tie, the tied player with more dog-name cards wins.
