Object

Stay on target, Galactic Squadron Leader! You've detected the enemy in different sectors and your laser cannon's set to BLAST. Can you vaporize your opponent's fleet of five spaceships before they vaporize yours?

The First Time You Play

Carefully detach the 10 spaceships from the plastic frame. (Each player's fleet contains five different spaceships.) If needed, use an emery board or sandpaper to remove any excess plastic from the spaceships.

Prepare for Battle

  1. Snap the plastic frame into the base.
  2. Snap the four plastic sector grids into the notches on the frame, two grids on each side of the frame. Repeat on the other side of the frame.
  3. Insert the four grid support legs into the notches on the frame and then snap them onto the four grids.
  4. Unfold the cardboard shield. Slide the shield into the grooves on the frame.
  5. If necessary, divide the red and white pegs equally between you and your opponent and place them in the storage wells on the base.
  6. Sit facing each other with the game unit between you.
  7. Both of you secretly place your five spaceships anywhere on your three sector grids. To place each spaceship, fit its pegs into the matching number of holes on your sector grid.

The diagram labels the parts: Sector 1 Grid, Sector 2 Grid, Sector 3 Grid, and Spaceship & Peg Storage on the base.

Sector Grid

Each sector grid is a 10 × 10 grid of holes, with rows lettered A–J and columns numbered 1–10. Track each row in which you had a hit here (the tracking column on the left side of the grid). Track each column in which you had a hit here (the tracking row along the top of the grid).

Your Fleet of 5 Spaceships

SpaceshipHoles
Quadron8 holes
Rocket Raider6 holes
Celestial Crawler6 holes
Tricorn Fighter3 holes
Dueler2 holes

Rules for Ship Placement

  • Place each spaceship horizontally or vertically, but not diagonally.
  • Do not place a spaceship so that any part of it overlaps letters or numbers.

The printed booklet shows an example of how to position your ships correctly.

How to Play

The player who's watched a space-themed movie most recently goes first. Then alternate turns, calling out one sector and one row or column per turn to try to hit each other's spaceships.

Call Your Shot

On your turn, pick a sector and a horizontal row or vertical column on that grid. Call out its location by stating the sector level and either letter or number row or column. For example, this is the shot location Sector 2, Row D. Note that you call out an entire row or column, rather than pinpointing a single spot as in traditional BATTLESHIP.

When you call a shot, your opponent must tell you whether it's a hit or a miss. After you record your hit or miss, your turn is over.

The printed booklet shows the example "You call 'Sector 2, Row D' as your shot."

It's a Hit!

If any spaceships on your opponent's sector grid occupy the location you called out, it's a hit! Your opponent tells you they have been hit. Record your hit by placing a red peg in the corresponding hole of the tracking row or column on your sector grid, while your opponent places a red peg in each corresponding hole of the spaceship(s) you hit.

Example: You and Alex are the players. It's your turn.

You call: "Sector 2, Row D."

Alex answers: "Hit."

You place a red peg in the hole next to row D in the tracking column on your sector 2 grid. Alex places red pegs in all holes of his spaceships in the line of fire on row D.

NOTE: When a row or column is called, all open holes in all spaceships in that row or column are hit. But your opponent only needs to tell you it's a hit, not how many holes or spaceships have been affected.

The printed booklet shows two illustrations: "It's a hit! Your opponent marks it with red pegs on the affected ships on that sector grid." and "You mark the hit with one red peg in your row-tracking column."

It's a Miss!

If the location you called out is not occupied by any spaceships on your opponent's sector grid, it's a miss. Place a white peg in the corresponding hole of the tracking row or column on your sector grid, so you won't call this shot again.

Example: Now it's Samantha's turn.

Samantha calls: "Sector 1, Column 3."

You answer: "Miss."

Samantha places a white peg in the hole next to column 3 in the tracking row of her sector 1 grid.

Vaporizing a Spaceship

Once all of the holes in a spaceship have red pegs, it has been vaporized. The spaceship's owner announces which ship was vaporized.

Winning the Game

If you vaporize your opponent's fleet of five ships before they vaporize yours, you win the game. Congratulations—you've saved the galaxy!

Storage

  1. Remove the ships and pegs from the grids and place the pegs in the storage wells on the plastic base.
  2. Remove the cardboard shield. Fold it and place it in the box.
  3. Gently remove the grid support legs from the sector grids first and then remove them from the frame.
  4. Pull the sector grids out to remove them.
  5. Unsnap the plastic frame from the base by pulling it straight up.
  6. On each side, lay two legs on the base and then place a sector grid over the legs. Repeat by placing two more legs on the sector grid and cover with the second grid. Each side should have four legs and two sector grids, all stacked on the base.
  7. Position five spaceships on the top sector grid on each side. Keep the spaceships between rows A-F and columns 2-8.
  8. Snap the frame on the base as a storage lid.
