How to Dispense Profanity

  1. The game works best with four or more players.

  2. Everyone starts with 7 white cards. All white cards are direct quotations from the plays of William Shakespeare.

  3. For each round, one person serves as Profanity Judge. The Profanity Judge draws a yellow card and reads it aloud. Each of the other players submits one white card as a suggested completion for the yellow card (or two white cards, if the yellow card has two blanks.) To ensure judicial integrity, you should prevent the Profanity Judge from knowing who submitted which card.

  4. The judge reads all the submissions aloud and chooses the best one, construing "best" however he or she sees fit.

  5. The winner keeps the yellow card. All players replenish their white cards back to seven. A new person becomes the judge and a new round begins.

  6. Play until you get bored. At the end of the game, whoever has the most yellow cards wins. If you care.
