Buy a formal dress, get your hair styled, find a way to get to the prom, and choose a boyfriend. Then, go on to win the game and become QUEEN OF THE PROM.
Before Play
- Each player selects a Barbie play piece, folds it to show Barbie in her shopping outfit, and inserts it into a plastic base. Place all play pieces on the corner HOME space.
- Each player then takes one Barbie Dollar. The remaining Barbie Dollars are set aside in a pile off the gameboard.
Spinner Assembly
(Diagram: Arrow, Spinner Card, Spinner Base.)
A. Separate arrow from spinner base. B. Insert base through hole in spinner card as shown. C. Snap together arrow and spinner base. D. To make sure arrow will spin freely, press down on spinner card near hole, making sure spinner base pops through hole.
- Assemble the spinner as shown. Take turns spinning. Whoever spins the highest number will play first.
- Place all Travel, Beauty Salon, Boyfriend, and Dress cards on the matching spaces on the outer path of the gameboard. Place the four Friend cards on the matching spaces on the inner gameboard path.
Play
The goal is to collect one Beauty Salon, Boyfriend, Dress, and Travel card, then go home, change clothes, and go on to the inner path to win the crown. Players must pay one Barbie Dollar for each hairstyle, dress, and ride to the prom, so players must remember to get money before trying to collect these cards.
At your turn, spin the spinner and move the number of spaces spun. You may move in either direction along the gameboard, but only one direction during one turn.
Dress Shop, Travel Shop, Beauty Salon. When you land on any of these spaces, you may buy the dress, ride, or hairstyle card you landed on. To buy a card, pay one Barbie Dollar to the pile of money. A player may collect only one of each kind of card during the game.
Boyfriend. When you land on a Boyfriend card, you may take it--no money needed. One boyfriend is allowed each player.
Corner Spaces. Whenever you land on a corner space--Dress Shop, Beauty Salon, Travel Shop, or Home--you have a choice of moves. You may stay on the corner space OR you may immediately move to a matching gameboard space and collect that card if you need it. For example, if you land on the Dress Shop corner space and have not collected a Dress card, you may move to any space containing a Dress card and collect that card (if you have a Barbie Dollar to pay for it, of course).
Go Anywhere. If you land on this space, you may move to any space on the outer gameboard path. This is a good chance to move to the Collect $ and get a Barbie Dollar if you need one.
After you have collected one Boyfriend, Beauty Salon, Dress, and Travel card, you must return Home, and must spin and move until you reach the Home space by exact count. On your next turn, change your Barbie piece to the prom dress side, spin, and begin to move into the center circle game path. The staircase to the center circle counts as one space only. Once you're on the center circle path, play according to the space you landed on:
Friend. Take the card you landed on. It may help you win the game.
Dancing Couple. Barbie and Ken are dancing. You do nothing.
Crown. Spin the spinner again. If you spin the Crown again, you win the game! You also get an extra spin for each Friend card you have.
Winner
The winner of the game is the first player to reach the inner game path, land on the Crown space, then spin the Crown while still on that space.
