Includes
- 1 Game Board
- 5 Dinosaur Tokens
- 1 Lava Token
- 49 Cards (13 Lava Cards and 36 Item Cards): Fern, Dino Egg, Fish Bone, Dino Print, Meat, Snail
Setup
- Open the board and place it in the center of the table.
- Choose 3 dinosaurs to play with and place them on the starting space. Return the other dinosaurs to the box.
- Place the Lava Token on the first lava space in the top left corner of the board.
- Shuffle all the cards together and deal 3 to each player.
- Place the remaining cards in a face-down draw pile next to the board.
- Starting with the youngest player, take turns in a clockwise order.
How to Win
Get all the dinosaurs from the starting space to the island before the lava reaches the valley.
On Your Turn
1. If you have a Lava Card in your hand, you MUST play it instead of taking your turn! Move the Lava Token down the volcano 1 space towards the valley. Draw a new card. The player to your left can now take their turn.
2. If you do not have a Lava Card in your hand, play 1 Item Card.
Item Cards
- When you play an Item Card, move any dinosaur up the path to the next space that matches your Item Card.
- If there is already a dinosaur on the closest matching item space, jump over that dinosaur to the next closest matching item space. Baby dinosaurs can work together allowing their friends to travel much further on any given turn.
- If there are no unoccupied spaces left on the path that match the card you played, the dinosaur leaps to the safety of the island!
3. Draw a new card. The player to your left can now take their turn.
Game End
If all the dinosaurs get to the island before the Lava Token reaches the final space, you win! If the Lava Token reaches the last space and covers the valley, all of the baby dinosaurs get swept back to their starting spaces and you'll need to try again.
Once you win, try to help even more dinosaurs make it to the island for a bigger challenge! Can you help 4, or even all 5 dinosaurs get to the island before the lava reaches the valley?
- I'm feeling confident - Choose 4 dinosaurs and place them on the starting space.
- I'm an expert - Place all 5 dinosaurs on the starting space.
Words of Advice
"One of my favourite tricks is to play the same Item Card after another player does. This really gets the dinosaurs moving! I also try to keep the dinosaurs close together so they leap over each other and go farther when you move them."
A Game of Teamwork
The back page of the instructions includes a bonus activity: "Can you match each baby dinosaur with an item?" — a maze puzzle pairing each of the 5 dinosaurs (long-neck, T-Rex, ankylosaurus, pterodactyl, triceratops) with one of the 6 item icons (snail, fern, fish bone, dino egg, meat, and a sixth unmatched item) by tracing a tangled path.
