- 1 black stone in the shape of a six-sided prism
- 1 rulebook
Players: 2 or more. Age: 13 – 99. Playing time: 30 minutes.
Goal of the Game
Using correct answers to competition questions, connect the three sides of the game board with tokens of your colour.
Division of Players
The basic version is set up for three players: two contestants and a moderator. The moderator reads the questions and decides the course of the game and whether answers are correct. The first-round moderator is decided by a die roll (the player with the lowest number becomes the moderator). After each round the roles are swapped.
With more players, pairs are formed in any way. Winners of duels continue in the game until there is an absolute winner.
You can also play with just two players. In that case the opponent partly replaces the moderator, and the players read the questions to each other.
Setup
Before the first game, carefully remove the tokens from the cardboard grid. Place the game board in the middle between the players, and the tokens next to it.
The moderator shuffles the question cards and keeps the pile in front of them. In the two-player version, place the pile next to the game board.
Before starting, the players choose which colour of questions they will begin the game with (blue or yellow), and turn the questions of that colour face down.
Gameplay
The older player of the pair decides the colour of the tokens. The game is then started by the player with the blue tokens.
The player chooses a field they want to play for, places the black stone on it, and names a question number from 1 to 5.
The moderator takes the top card from the pile, says the initial letters of the hidden word (tajenka), and reads the full question given under the chosen number.
Players may begin answering only after the whole question has been read aloud. If this rule is broken, the answer may be considered incorrect.
The moderator finds the correct answers on the same side of the card, under the same number as the question.
After the Question Is Read
Once the question has been read, one of the following situations occurs:
-
The player answers correctly. The player receives a token of their colour and places it on the field marked with the black stone. The player must formulate the answer unambiguously. An answer that does not match the letters of the hint need not be accepted as correct. The first answer, or a quick correction, counts as valid, and the moderator decides whether it is accepted (when only two players are playing, the opponent decides).
-
The player answers incorrectly or refuses to answer. The opponent may play for the chosen field and answer instead of them. If the opponent answers correctly, they receive a token of their colour and place it on the field marked with the black stone. This does not apply in the two-player game (the game without a moderator). If, after the opponent's wrong answer, the other player wants to play for the field immediately, they must take a new card.
-
The player answers incorrectly or refuses to answer, and the opponent is not interested in the chosen field either. The field is marked with a neutral grey token and may be played for later.
Time Limit
The players may agree on a time limit within which the question must be answered.
The card just used is placed at the bottom of the pile.
Turns
Players take turns. After a token is placed, it is the opponent's turn.
Each turn always begins with placing the black stone on the chosen field.
Duels
If a player chooses a field marked with a grey token, a duel takes place.
Each player rolls the die. The player who rolls the higher number wins the field. If both players roll the same number, the rolls are repeated.
End of the Game
The winner is the player who manages to connect all three sides of the game board with their tokens.
The original rulebook illustrates this with a picture of a triangular board of hexagonal fields showing a winning arrangement. The picture is not reproduced here.
