RDA Symbol: Place an RDA token on the player's current space.

Objective

Working together, players move around the four territories of Pandora to battle the RDA and prevent them from overrunning the Na'vi homeland. Players collect points by battling and defeating the RDA and/or completing the challenges outlined on the Avatar cards. The first player to collect eight points wins!

Set-Up

  1. Set-up the play area as shown in the diagram.
  2. Once the play area is set-up, each player selects a Na'vi Warrior Pawn and takes the corresponding Game Play Guide.
  3. Shuffle the Territory card deck and deal 3 cards to each player. Each player should also take 3 Woodsprite tokens. This forms the player's starting hand of cards and Woodsprite tokens.
  4. Shuffle the Avatar card deck and turn the top card over placing it next to the deck. This is the first Avatar card the players may attempt.
  5. Roll the RDA Invasion die. The player whose color is rolled takes the first turn.
  6. The first player starts his/her turn using the following rules. Play proceeds clockwise.

Game Play

Each player takes his/her turn by following the steps below:

Step 1 – RDA Invasion

Roll the RDA Invasion die and place an RDA token on the territory space indicated.

Step 2 – Movement (CHOOSE ONE)

The player may make one move during the Movement step using the following rules:

If the player starts his/her turn on the Hometree, he/she can move to any space in any territory.

OR

If the player is on a space in one of the four Pandora Territories he/she can move his/her pawn to any space in the territory currently occupied or back to the Hometree.

OR

The player can choose not to move and remain in the space he/she is currently in.

Step 3 – Action (CHOOSE ONE)

After moving his/her pawn, the player takes ONE of the following actions:

Hometree Action

Draw Woodsprite Tokens

If the player is on the Hometree space he/she may draw 2 Woodsprite tokens as his/her action.

Pandora Territory Actions

Battle the RDA

If a space the player is in contains one or more RDA tokens, the player can choose to Battle the RDA. To Battle the RDA, roll one Battle die.

One RDA token is defeated for each explosion symbol or Power card symbol rolled, as long as the player has the Power card in play. If the player rolls a Power card symbol but does not have the card in play, the roll is considered a draw and nothing happens. When an RDA token is defeated the player receives 1 point and returns the token to the RDA token pile.

If the player rolls a RDA symbol, another RDA token is placed on the space at which he/she battled.

OR

Draw a Card

The Draw a Card action allows a player to draw the top card from the Territory deck. To Draw a Card the player must be in one of the four colored Pandora Territories. A player may perform the Draw a Card action even if a RDA token is on the space.

After the player takes an Action, his/her turn ends immediately and the player to the left starts the next turn. Play continues this way with each player performing the three steps of a turn until one player gathers 8 points or the Tree of Souls is destroyed.

Additional Rules

Avatar Cards

All players may attempt to complete the faceup Avatar card. The first player to meet the requirements on the card completes it and receives 1 point. Once an Avatar card is completed, the player turns over a new Avatar card, placing it on top of the old one. Players may now attempt to complete the new Avatar card.

Territory Cards

Territory cards are kept in the player's hand so only he/she can see them. To play any Territory card, the player must discard the number of Woodsprite tokens shown at the bottom of the card. A player may play any number of cards on his/her turn as long as he/she has enough Woodsprite tokens to discard.

There are two different kinds of cards in the Territory card deck.

Power Cards (blue border): When played, these cards are placed on the table near the player's Game Play Guide and remain in play. From then on, whenever the player rolls the Battle dice, he/she will defeat the RDA token if the symbol on the Power card is rolled.

Na'vi Assist Cards (gray border): Na'vi Assist cards can be played at any time during the player's turn. When playing these cards the player immediately acts out the effects shown. The card is then placed in the discard pile.

How to Read Avatar and Territory Cards

Avatar and Territory cards use a system of pictograms to show the player what the card does. Cards are read by looking at the symbols shown on the card and comparing them to the Game Play Guide. Read off the meaning of each symbol starting at the left and continuing to the right. By reading the symbols in this way, players create a longer statement indicating what happens when that card is played.

The booklet diagram labels a Power Card (Dice Icon, Woodsprite Token Cost) and a Na'vi Assist Card (Effect Icons, Woodsprite Token Cost). The pictogram key itself is printed on the Game Play Guide cards, which are not part of the booklet and are not transcribed here.

Receiving Points

Whenever a player receives a point, he/she moves his/her Point Counter to the next highest number on the Point Tracker.

The player receives points for the following:

  • 1 Point is awarded for each RDA token defeated.
  • 1 Point is awarded for each Avatar card completed.

Tree of Souls Destruction

Whenever a fourth RDA token is placed on a Territory space, the RDA has amassed enough troops to start attacking the Tree of Souls! Remove all RDA tokens from the space and place them back in the RDA token pile. Then place one destruction piece on the Tree of Souls.

Winning

The game ends when one of the following happens:

A player earns eight points, winning the game and defeating the RDA.

OR

All six Tree of Souls destruction pieces are covering the Tree of Souls. The RDA have overrun the Na'vi defenders and destroyed the Tree of Souls! Each players checks to see how many points he/she has on the Point Tracker. The player with the most points wins the game.
