Components

2 fishers, 4 fish, 1 boat, 1 large river piece, 11 small river pieces, 1 sea piece, 1 colour die.

Game Goal

The colour die decides whether the boat or the fish move. If more fish are in the sea at the end, the fish friends win. If the fishers have caught more than two fish, the fisher fans win.

Setup

Before the first game, carefully punch all the parts out of the punch-out sheet. It is best to have an adult help you. Put the boat and the large river piece together. They stay firmly connected afterwards.

Place the small river piece with the four fish spaces in the middle of the table. Place five river pieces to the right and five to the left. At the end towards which the fish swim, place the sea piece. At the other end comes the river piece with the boat.

Put the two fishers into the boat. Place the four fish on the coloured fish spaces in the middle.

Now get the colour die ready, and off you go!

Gameplay

At the start, you may decide whether you want to side with the fishers or with the fish.

Rolling and Moving

The youngest player begins and rolls the die.

  • If you roll blue, orange, yellow or pink, move the fish of the same colour forward one river piece.
  • If you roll red or green, take the small river piece directly in front of the boat and set it aside. Then push the river piece with the boat forward until it touches the next river piece.

Then the next player takes their turn.

A Fish Reaches the Sea

When you move a fish onto the sea piece, it is free and can no longer be caught by the boat. If that fish's colour is rolled again later in the game, you may move any other fish forward one river piece.

A Fish Is Caught

When you take away a river piece on which one or more fish are standing, place those fish in the boat. They have been caught by the fishers.

Note: If you roll the colour of a fish that has already been caught during the game, take the river piece in front of the boat away and move the boat forward.

End of the Game

There are several ways to end the game:

  1. All fish reach the sea. The fish friends win.
  2. All fish are caught. The fisher fans win.
  3. The boat reaches the sea because the last river piece has been removed. As it is not fit for the sea, the fishers must be content with the fish caught up to that point.

If you sided with the fish, you win if more fish were able to escape to the sea. If you sided with the fishers, you win if more fish were caught. If exactly two fish were caught, the game ends in a draw.

What will happen at the next swimming race in the river?
