Setup
- Each player takes a Starting Deck of Apprentice and Militia cards and shuffles it.
- Take the Heavy Infantry, Mystic, and Cultist cards and set them within reach of both players as the Always Available stacks.
- Shuffle the rest of the cards to form the Center Deck, place it face down, and turn over the top six cards to form the Center Row next to it.
- Set the Void aside as an empty space on the other side of the Center Row for defeated Monsters and banished cards.
- Fill the Honor Pool with all 60 Honor (in 1 and 5 Honor Tokens).
- Each player draws 5 cards from their Starting Deck for their opening hand.
During Your Turn
- Play cards from your hand to gain Runes, Power, and/or Honor.
- Use Runes to acquire Heroes and Constructs.
- Use Power to defeat Monsters.
At the End of Your Turn
- Put Heroes you played and any unplayed cards from your hand into your discard pile. (Constructs remain in play.)
- Draw 5 cards for your next turn.
Center Row
When a card leaves the Center Row, it is immediately replaced by the top card of the Center Deck.
You may acquire any Hero or Construct in the Center Row using Runes, or defeat any Monster in the Center Row using Power.
Always Available Cards
- Mystic and Heavy Infantry are Heroes, and are always available to acquire during your turn.
- The Cultist is a Monster, and is always available to defeat during your turn.
- These are NOT considered to be in the Center Row.
Defeated Monsters give you their reward immediately and then go to the Void (except for the Cultist).
Constructs
Play your Constructs in front of you. Constructs remain in play unless destroyed.
Deck, Discard Pile, and Void
- Deck (face down): If you have to draw a card and there are no cards in your deck, shuffle your discard pile and it becomes your deck.
- Discard Pile (face up): Acquired Heroes and Constructs go to your discard pile; they have no immediate effect.
- Void: Defeated Monsters and banished cards go here.
Honor Pool
Start the game with 60 Honor. When the Honor Pool empties, the game ends at the end of the round. (You may not gain Honor from the reserve.)
Winning the Game
The player with the most Honor when the game ends is the winner.
