Additional Material

  • 1 luxury goods market mat
  • 4 purveyor development tiles, 1 per type of good

Game Preparation

The luxury goods market mat is placed next to the game board. In a two player game, use the reverse side of the market.

The 4 purveyor development tiles are laid out in addition to the regular development tiles.

Note: In the Spinning Jenny version, purveyors are used!

With 3 players, only 4 workers are placed in the fired workers space.

With 2 players, 4 workers are placed in the fired workers space and 4 are put back in the box.

Game Play

The game is played according to the usual rules, depending on the version (Waterframe, Spinning Jenny, etc.) with the following amendments:

At the beginning of a round, one goods cube is placed on each space in the luxury goods market of the current and all previous technology levels.

Note: In stage I, there is no luxury good of food.

In the production and sale phase, just before the domestic selling step, players will have the opportunity to sell in the luxury goods market for the active goods.

Each player marks their reputation for the active good on his price track using a machine token. Reputation is the basic quality of the factory (= construction costs) added to the value of the quality marker. The player that has the purveyor development tile of the active goods may add "+3" to the basic quality INSTEAD of the value of his quality marker.

Attention: Distribution markers and price are irrelevant to the reputation! Players may not add both the value of the quality marker and purveyor to the basic quality of the factory.

The player with the highest value of reputation may sell first. If there is a tie, the starting player or the following player clockwise turn goes first. The sale is voluntary. Those who do not sell when it is their turn must pass for the remainder of this step completely and places the machine token from their price track back into the supply.

The player selling a good receives the goods token from the highest space of the luxury goods market and places it in front of himself. He receives the purchase price in accordance with the space his machine token occupies on his price track. He also receives the Bonus printed on the space of the goods token from the luxury goods market. Then he moves his reputation value one space down.

The next player with the highest reputation score may sell (which may also be the same player again). This step ends when all players have passed or spaces of the luxury goods market of the active commodity are empty.

Clarifications

Purveyors have meaning only in the luxury goods market. In determining the appeal in the regular domestic market, the appeal value is calculated as usual using the markers on the player mat.

Players may only sell newly produced goods in the luxury goods market (not goods from their warehouse). Goods sold in the luxury goods market of the current production are no longer available and cannot be domestically sold or shipped.

The goods cubes obtained in the luxury goods market must be placed separately from those obtained from the regular domestic market in the next section on the sale.

In the share price increase phase, only the goods sold domestically on the regular market are considered. Thus, a player that has sold 2 goods in the luxury goods market and 1 good in the regular domestic market will move their share price indicator 1 space forward.
