How do attached cards work: can I influence them, and what happens when the base card leaves?

You can't influence or secure an attached card by itself, because it is secured together with its base card, and both When Secured actions resolve in either order. Once secured they stay in your play area as normal cards. If the base card is removed from the Court, the attached card slides down into its place and the agents move onto it.
