Components

  • 4 Outdoor Animal tokens (Orca, Dolphin, Whale and Sea Lion)
  • 4 Outdoor expansion cards
  • 4 Advanced Fish tokens (Jellyfish)
  • 1 Advanced Fish token reference card

Setup

In addition to the standard setup, the following applies when playing with this expansion.

  1. Shuffle and deal one Outdoor expansion card to each player. Each player places their card face up to the left of their Aquarium board. After a few games, players may choose which Outdoor expansion card they want to play instead of dealing them. Choices are made in the reverse order of initiative from the first round.
  2. Each player receives the Outdoor Animal token that matches their card and places it next to the card.
  3. Any remaining Outdoor cards and tokens are returned to the box and will not be used in this game.

Activating Special Abilities

  • A Special Ability can only be used once per Round.
  • A Special Ability can be used at any time during the player's turn.
  • Each Outdoor expansion card describes the effect of its matching Special Ability. When a player decides to activate the card, they choose between resolving the Special Ability immediately or gaining 1 fund.
  • After activating the card, the player places the Outdoor Animal token on the upper part of the card to show that it has been used in the current Round.
  • If activating a Special Ability meets the conditions of one or more Milestone cards, the player may complete those milestones immediately.

The Outdoor Animal tokens are returned next to the Outdoor expansion card during the Preparation Phase of the current Round. This way, players can use their Special Ability again in the next Round.

Popularity Points from This Expansion

The popularity points printed on this expansion's cards are gained during the final score calculation.

Special Ability Notes

Dolphin, Sea Lion and Orca tokens

Tokens gained through these abilities may be placed in any water tank, regardless of the position of the player's Employee token. The standard placement rules apply to these tokens.

If the type of token shown on the card is not present on the Sea board, the Special Ability cannot be activated.

Whale token

Fish tokens exchanged by this ability must be placed on fish spaces and in the water tanks that match those of the original fish tokens. The standard placement rules apply to fish tokens placed in water tanks.

If several fish tokens are on one fish space, only one of them may be exchanged.

If there are no fish tokens on the Fair board, the Whale's Special Ability cannot be activated.

Additional popularity points notes

  • Orca token: the 6 Regular Fish tokens are Small Fish, Large Fish, Sea Turtles, Sharks, Seahorses and Whale Sharks.

Advanced Rules

Advanced Fish tokens

  • To familiarize players with the Advanced Rules, it is recommended to use only 3 types of Advanced Fish, chosen from those available. After several games, players may add more types of tokens.
  • The purchase price of an Advanced Fish token from the Sea board is the same as for a Regular Fish token: 2 funds per token.

Jellyfish tokens

  • Each Jellyfish token can be used as a substitute for a token of any type, including a Seaweed or Coral token, when checking the conditions of a Milestone card. After the player has completed the milestone, the token is again treated as a standard Jellyfish token.

  • If a player can complete a milestone by placing a Jellyfish token, they may decide to complete it immediately (even if the Jellyfish token was bought from an advertising space).

  • Each Jellyfish token can substitute for any type of token for each Milestone card, independently of the other tokens and the other cards. Depending on the number of tokens in a water tank, several milestones can be completed with the same tank, using a different substitution for each card for the same Jellyfish token.

Example: a Jellyfish token in a water tank can be substituted for a Small Fish to complete one Milestone card, and then represent a Seaweed for another.

  • At the end of the game, the Jellyfish tokens themselves do not provide popularity points during the final score calculation.
