Components

  • 1 Game board
  • 1 Tile holder (assemble it for your first game)
  • 60 Animal tiles (25 morning tiles, 35 evening tiles)
  • 120 Picture tokens (24 per color, 5 colors): Toucan, Jaguar, Squirrel Monkey, Caiman, Capybara
  • 24 Magazine cards (4 per color, 6 colors), including the Amazonia magazine cards
  • 1 Magazine rack
  • 4 Screens
  • 1 Rulebook

Setup

  1. Place the game board in the middle of the table.
  2. Sort the magazine cards by color, and stack them in the magazine rack next to the board. The cards must face forward and be placed in ascending order (the lowest value in front). In a 2-player game, remove the 9 from the Amazonia magazine cards and all the 7s from the other magazine cards.
  3. Shuffle the evening animal tiles and place them face down in the tile holder next to the board. Shuffle the morning animal tiles and place them face down on top of the evening tiles. Each player draws 1 animal tile from the top of the pile.
  4. Sort the picture tokens by animal, and place them within easy reach of all players as a general supply.
  5. Each player places a screen in front of them to hide their collected picture tokens.

The player who most recently took a picture of an animal is the starting player. (Or you may choose the starting player randomly).

Turn

On your turn, you either: Take Pictures, or Publish an Article.

Take Pictures

To take pictures, you place the animal tile from your hand face up on the board. You must place it on an empty space with no animals. Then take picture tokens of the animal in line of sight. A line of sight is a horizontal or vertical line from the newly placed animal tile. Take the pictures (tokens) of the first animal tile you see in each of the 4 directions, if any.

Each animal tile contains between 1-3 animals, and you take the corresponding number of picture tokens for animals in line of sight. Place the picture tokens behind your screen.

Example: Moon places an animal tile with 2 Capybara (purple). So he can take pictures of 1 Toucan (red) and 1 Jaguar (yellow), and takes the corresponding picture tokens. Then Hyo-Joo places an animal tile with 1 Jaguar (yellow). She takes 2 Capybara tokens (purple), 1 Toucan token (red), and 1 Caiman token (blue).

You must always announce which picture tokens you take so that the other players can follow your actions.

If there are not enough picture tokens of a particular animal in the general supply, take any other animal picture tokens of your choice for the missing tokens.

Draw a new tile from the stack and hide it behind your screen. Your turn is now complete. Play continues clockwise to the next player.

If the tile holder does not have any more morning tiles, evening tiles will be drawn next.

Publish an Article

If you have enough picture tokens to match any of the six visible magazine cards on the rack, you can Publish an Article instead of Take Pictures. To do so, return the corresponding number of picture tokens to the general supply and take the matching magazine card, and place the card face-up in front of your screen.

Example: As Minji has 5 Caiman tokens, she decides not to play a tile this turn. Instead, she returns 5 Caiman tokens to the general supply and takes the Caiman magazine card from the front of the stack.

To collect an Amazonia magazine card, return the corresponding number of picture tokens in any colors.

Example: Isaac wants to collect an Amazonia magazine card that requires 7 picture tokens. He collects the magazine card by returning 3 Toucan tokens, 3 Caiman tokens, and 1 Squirrel Monkey token.

When you Publish an Article, you may collect only 1 magazine card at a time.

You can only collect 1 magazine card of each color.

If you do not have enough picture tokens of the required animal, you may substitute each missing token with a pair of picture tokens from another animal.

Example: Jerome wants to collect a Toucan magazine card that requires 5 Toucan tokens but he only has 3 Toucan tokens. He can still collect the magazine card by returning 3 Toucan tokens, 2 Jaguar tokens, and 2 Capybara tokens.

Magazine Card Special Effects

Some magazine cards have a special effect:

  • Cards with a value of 9 (11 for the Amazonia magazine cards): When you collect this magazine card, you can take 1 picture token of your choice from the general supply.
  • Cards with a value of 11 (13 for the Amazonia magazine cards): You can always Publish an Article by using 1 fewer picture token from the next turn onwards.

Game End

The game ends immediately when a player collects magazine cards in all 6 colors. This player wins and they will be known as the best wildlife photographer of our time!

The game may also end when there are no empty spaces left on the board to play more tiles. In this case, the player with the most magazine cards wins. If there is a tie, the player who has more picture tokens behind their screen wins. If the tie is still not broken, all the tied players win together.
