Content

  • 72 Mood cards (12 in each of the 6 player colors)
  • 84 Meal cards (in 14 sets, see Meal Cards)
  • Birthday Cake tile
  • 36 Drink tokens
  • 24 Spice tokens
  • First player tile (Salt)
  • Start of line tile (Pepper)
  • This rulebook

If you like, you can assemble the tiles using the tile stands before playing.

Setup

  1. Have each player choose a color from the 6 available and give each one the corresponding deck of Mood cards to shuffle.

In a 5 or 6-player game, everyone removes one copy of their Hungry Mood cards before shuffling their deck.

  2. Shuffle the Meal cards into a face-down deck and place the Start of line tile next to it.

  3. Place the Birthday Cake tile, Spice and Drink tokens nearby.

  4. Give the First player tile to the hungriest player.

In this example, 4 players have completed the Setup and Set the table for the first round of the game. Blue is the 1st player.

Next, they will choose a Mood card from their hand to play face down in front of them (see Playing Mood cards, below).

A Game Round

1. Drawing cards

  • In the first round, each player draws 3 Mood cards to keep in their hand (in all further rounds, everyone draws 1 Mood card, see Preparing the next round).

2. Setting the table

  • Draw Meal cards and arrange them to create a line in the center of the table, in the order you draw them, next to the Start of line tile.

  • Place one Spice token on the 2nd and 3rd Meal cards.

3. Playing Mood cards

  • Each player plays 1 face-down Mood card from their hand.

Exception

Depending on the number of players and on the number of Drink tokens you have, you may have to play 2 face-down cards or no face-down cards at all. In both cases, the player on your left chooses 1 random card to reveal, either from the 2 you placed face down or directly from your hand.

The following table explains when these exceptions apply:

Gameplay Effect3 players4 players5 players6 players
Play 2 Mood cards3344
Play 0 Mood cards5566

(Number of Drink tokens)

Example: In a 4-player game, Blue has 6 Drink tokens. Since 5 are enough to trigger the second effect, Blue plays no Mood card.

Green, on their left, randomly picks one from Blue's hand to reveal.

4. Revealing Mood cards

  • Reveal all played Mood cards simultaneously.
  • If more players played the same Mood card, they must clink glasses and cheer: they all take a Drink token from the shared supply!

5. Applying Mood cards and collecting Meal cards

  • In turn order, starting with the first player, everyone applies the effect of their Mood card to possibly collect Meal cards from the line, arranging them face up in front of themselves.

IMPORTANT: When you collect a Meal card, you also take any Spice tokens on it.

Exception: If, for any reason, there are not enough Meal cards on the line, you don't collect any Meal (or collect what is available, i.e. Very Hungry Mood card).

6. Preparing the next round

  • Each player draws a Mood card from their deck.
  • Discard all remaining Meal cards into a separate pile.
  • Give the First player tile to the next player, clockwise, and begin the new round.

End of the Game

After the 10th round (9th, in 5 and 6-player games), when everyone is left with 2 Mood cards, the game is over and everyone scores the Meal cards and tokens they collected (see Scoring and in-game effects).

The winner is the player with the most points. In case of a tie, the tied player with the most Drink tokens wins the game.

Meal Cards

Each Meal card shows the Meal set it belongs to, the amount of Victory Points the card is worth, and any special effects (refer to Scoring and in-game effects). Some cards also give you 1 Drink token when you collect them.

Scoring and in-game effects

Victory Points

Time to wipe your whiskers clean: add up the numbers on the golden napkins of the cards you have collected, following the rules below, and count your tokens.

Tokens

  • Drink: 1 Point per Drink token.

  • Spice: 1 Point per Spice token, up to 5. If you have 6 or more, you don't score any of them.

Exception: You collected the Milk card!

Meal Cards

  • Garlic: -1 Point.

Exception: You collected the Parsley card!

  • Cake: 1 Point | 8 Points for the Birthday Cake tile.

During the game, every time a player collects a Cake card (or steals it from another player), they also take the Birthday Cake tile from the player who has it. This means that the Birthday Cake bonus is scored only by the last player of the game who collects a Cake card.

Black Forest cake: Also take a Drink token when you collect the card.

  • Meat: As indicated on the card.

Coq au vin: Also take a Drink token when you collect the card.

  • Fish: 3 Points. The player(s) with the most Fish do not score their collected Fish cards.

  • Vegetables: As indicated on the card. The player(s) with the most Vegetable cards also score 10 additional Points.

  • Parsley: Your Garlic cards are worth 2 Points each instead of -1.

  • Fruits: 1/2/4/8/16/24 Points for each set of 1/2/3/4/5/6 different Fruits cards you collected. You may score multiple sets.

Rum Banana: Also take a Drink token when you collect the card.

IMPORTANT: Banana and Rum Banana are considered to be the same type of Fruit when scoring them.

  • Tomato: Counts as a Fruit OR a Vegetable. Choose which one at the end of the game, before you score your Points.

  • Surprise bread: When you draw the Surprise Bread card, during the Setting the table phase, immediately place another Meal card underneath, face down and without looking at it, drawing it from the deck. When you collect the Surprise Bread, you also collect the secret card, but you reveal it and apply any of its effects only at the end of the game, just before Scoring.

  • Coffee: When you collect (or steal from another player) a Coffee card, discard 2 Drink tokens.

  • Milk: You can score up to 8 Spice tokens.

  • Lemon: Your Drink tokens are worth 2 Points each instead of 1.

  • Ketchup: Your collected Sausage cards (lowest value Meat cards) are worth 5 Points each instead of 1.

  • Spoiled food: -5 Points.

Scoring example

This is Blue's collection of cards and tokens at the end of the game.

They score 2 Points for the Cakes, 5 Points for the Meat, 5 for the Vegetables, 6 for the Fish (that Blue could score because another player collected more of them), and 2 for the Fruit (the Banana and the Rum Banana count as the same type of Fruit, therefore Blue decided to score 2 different sets, worth 1 point each).

Blue also ties with Red for the most Vegetable cards (3), scoring 10 extra Points.

Finally, they score 3 Points for their Drink tokens and 0 for the Spice tokens, because they have more than 5 of them.

In total, Blue scores 33 Points: 2 + 5 + 15 + 6 + 2 + 3 (Drink tokens) + 0 (Spice tokens) = 33

Mood Card Clarifications

  • At any given moment, the first Meal in the line is the one closest to the Start of line tile, while the last Meal in the line is the one farthest from it.
  • Two Meals are considered to be adjacent if there is no other Meal in between.
  • Boor: Play first. If there is more than one Boor card to resolve, all players who played them skip their turn (after taking the regular Drink token).
  • Slow: Play last. Collect all the Meal cards left on the table. If there is more than one Slow card to resolve, all players who played them skip their turn (after taking the regular Drink token).
  • Trickster: Any Spice tokens on the cards move with them.
  • Jealous: If you steal a card showing the Jealous icon, also take a Drink token from the shared supply.
  • Very Hungry: If there is only 1 Meal card in the line on your turn to collect, you simply collect that one available.
