Components

  • 7 Characters Cards (double-sided ENG ITA)
  • 14 Secret Identity Cards with special abilities (7 ITA + 7 ENG)
  • 47 Dish Cards (values from 1 to 7)
  • 9 Tolerance Cards (values from 16 to 24)
  • 3 Tokens: Chili Token; Last Target Token; Lock Token
  • 12 Summary Cards (6 ITA + 6 ENG)

Setup

Shuffle all decks separately.

Based on the number of players:

  1. Take a number of Character Cards equal to the number of players plus one and place them face up in a row in the center of the table. Return the remaining cards to the box; they will not be used this round.
  2. From the Secret identity deck, take the cards that match the same Characters in play, shuffle them, and deal one face down to each player.

After dealing the Secret identities, one card will remain. Return it to the box without revealing it: no player is associated to that Character. We call them the "Neutral Character".

  1. Deal to each player, face down:
    • 1 Tolerance Card (which they may look at and then place face down in front of them).
    • 4 Dish Cards (forming their starting hand).

Each player knows only their own Character and their Tolerance Limit.

  1. Place the 3 tokens within easy reach of all players.

Cards

Character Cards (and Secret Identities)

Character Cards represent the identities of the guests at the feast. Each Secret Identity Card has a Special Ability: choose at the beginning of the game if you want to play with or without special abilities.

See page 14 "Inferno Mode" for the rules governing special abilities.

Dish Cards

Dish Cards show:

  • The card name at the bottom;
  • Its value, inside the flame in the top-left corner;
  • In some cases, a second number or icon indicating special effect (see page 10).

Gameplay

The player with the most resistant palate begins the round, then the play moves on clockwise.

On your turn, you must choose one of the following actions:

1. Serve a Dish

To serve a Dish follow these steps:

  • Play 1 Dish Card below a Character of your choice.
  • Apply any special effects from the icons on that card.
  • Place the Last Target token on that Character.
  • Draw cards until you have 4 in hand, if possible. If the deck runs out, continue playing with the cards you have left in hand.

IMPORTANT: You CANNOT serve a dish to the same Character who was targeted in the previous turn (the one with the Last Target token).

The values of all the Dish Cards under that Character are added together: the total represents the spiciness level.

Each Character has a secret Tolerance Limit that they must try not to exceed. If they do, that Character immediately Burns Out (see "Burning Out").

OR

Withdraw Your Character

You may choose to have your character stop eating dishes and leave the round to avoid Burning Out. If you do, follow these steps:

  • Rotate the matching Character Card 90º to show that they are out of the round.
  • Reveal your Secret Identity and Tolerance Card.
  • Score points equal to the total value of the Dish Cards under your Character (plus any Bonus points).

Bonus Points

  • Gain 5 bonus points if your Character has the Chili token when you withdraw.
  • Gain 10 bonus points if the total value of Dish Cards exactly matches your Tolerance Limit.

IMPORTANT: Stack the pile of Dish Cards below that Character and tuck them underneath the Character Card. That Character can no longer be targeted or affected by actions (for example, Fork effects). Even after withdrawing your Character, you continue taking turns and playing cards as normal.

Burning Out (Busting)

If the total spiciness value of the cards under your Character is higher than your Tolerance Limit at any time during the round, your Character can't take the heat and they Burn Out!

If this happens, follow these steps:

  • Rotate the matching Character Card 90º to show that they are out of the round.
  • Reveal your Secret Identity and Tolerance Card.
  • You do not score any points for this round!

IMPORTANT: Stack the pile of Dish Cards below that Character and tuck them underneath the Character Card. That Character can no longer be targeted or affected by actions (for example, Fork effects). Even after withdrawing your Character, you continue taking turns and playing cards as normal.

The Neutral Character cannot Burn Out: they have no Tolerance Limit!

End of the Round

The round ends when:

  • Only one player remains in play: That player scores points equal to the total value of the Dish Cards under their Character, plus 2 points for each Dish Card under the Neutral Character (regardless of the values on those cards).

    or

  • When all Dish Cards have run out (both in the deck and in players' hands). All players still in the game score points equal to the total value of the Dish Cards under their Character.

IMPORTANT: If the round ends due to the deck running out, no additional points are awarded from the Neutral Character.

End of the Game

The winner is the player with the most points after three rounds, or the first player to reach 50 points, depending on the group's preference.

For rounds after the first round, the starting player is the one who would have taken the next turn when the previous round ended.

Special Icons

Some Dish Cards feature icons that trigger special effects.

Eye

When you play a Dish Card with this icon, you may look at one of your opponent's Tolerance Card (without revealing their Character).

Lock

When you play a Dish Card with this icon, place the Lock token on that Character.

The Lock token can only be removed by playing another Lock icon under a different Character (who then receives the token).

SPECIAL EFFECT: A Character with the Lock token cannot voluntarily withdraw.

IMPORTANT: If the Lock card is moved via a Fork effect, the token does NOT MOVE: it remains on the original Character.

Fork

When you play a Dish Card with this icon, you may move the last Dish Card played on any one Character's pile to another Character of your choice, including the same Character where the Fork card was just played.

IMPORTANT: When moving Dish Cards that have tokens, the token does NOT move with the card - it stays with the Character it was originally placed on.

Chili

When you play a Dish Card with this icon, place the Chili token on that Character.

The token remains there until another Chili icon is played on a different Character.

SPECIAL EFFECT: If you voluntarily withdraw or are the last player remaining while your Character has this token, you gain 5 bonus points.

IMPORTANT: If the Chili card is moved via a Fork effect, the token does NOT move: it remains on the original Character.

Special Scoring

Dish Cards with this icon have two different values:

  • The flame value counts toward the Tolerance Limit;
  • The star value determines the points scored at the end of the round.

The star value replaces the numeric value of the card for scoring purposes.

Examples

  • Latte: Counts as 1 for Tolerance, but is worth 7 points.
  • The Reaper: Counts as 7 for Tolerance, but is worth 1 point.

Worked Examples

  • Vasco Tabasco withdraws, and since the total value of the Dishes is equal to his Tolerance Limit (17), he gains 10 extra VP: (5+7+6+3+2)+10=33 VP.
  • Go Chu Jang has the Chili Token on his card. Therefore, if he chooses to withdraw, he gains 5 extra VP: (1+5+4)+5=15 VP.
  • King Naga busted because he was served Dishes with a total value greater than 18 (6+3+4+7=20). He therefore scores 0 VP and continues playing from the next turn onward.
  • Piri Piri has no Tolerance Limit because she is the Neutral Character (as confirmed by the fact that the total value of the Dishes served to her exceedes the maximum Tolerance Limit value - 24 - and she has not busted). The last player remaining in the round scores 2 extra VP for each Dish Card played beneath this card.
  • Dish Cards with a total value of 12 have been served to Fuego Fred, but he is blocked by the Lock Token and cannot withdraw.

Inferno Mode

If the challenge feels too easy, try Inferno Mode. In this variant, each Character has a unique ability that can drastically change the game. Add the following rule:

At the start of your turn, before playing a card or withdrawing, you may reveal your Secret Identity and activate their ability. Then, continue your turn as normal.

Each Secret Identity may be revealed only once per round.

Character Abilities

  • Habi Wasabi - Green Frenzy: You may play up to 3 cards on different opponents. Then draw until you have 4 cards in your hand.
  • Piri Piri - Fiery Dance: Swap the positions of two Characters (each now has the other Character's pile of Dish Cards). If a player Burns Out due to their new pile, they must immediately declare it.
  • Fuego Fred - I Must Endure!: Look at the top 3 undealt Tolerance Cards. You may replace your current limit with one of them and discard the old one without revealing it.
  • Vasco Tabasco - Quick Fork: Immediately perform a Fork action.
  • King Naga - Savage Diss: Choose a player with a hidden Secret Identity and guess which Character they are. If you are correct, that player must immediately withdraw (they score for their Dish Cards normally) and you gain 7 bonus points (awarded even if you are forced to withdraw this round).
  • Al Apeno - Siesta: Until your next turn, no opponent can play cards on you or voluntarily withdraw.
  • Go Chun Jang - Mastery: Copy the ability of a Character that has not yet been revealed.
