Components

The X-Deck contains 24 cards:

  • 3 alien action fields cards
  • 3 merchants from space cards
  • 6 alien acquisitions cards
  • 11 alien events cards
  • 1 alien education card

Editor's note: the component list above uses the printed terms "acquisitions" and "education", while the card-type headings below use "Alien Artefacts" and "Alien Occupation". The card counts match (6 Artefacts, 1 Occupation), so these refer to the same cards.

Rules

The aliens arrive when the players create a Quarry – that is, when the "1 Stone" card from Stage II of the game (Rounds 5-7) is revealed. Whenever a player takes this action, they also draw the top card from the Alien Encounter Deck (X Deck). (Note that this does not apply to the "1 Stone" card that appears during Stage IV (Rounds 10-11).)

Of course, you also take any Stone that is on the space.

There Are Five Types of Cards in the X Deck

Alien Actions

These cards are placed face-up beside the boards. They are normal action spaces and may be taken by any person disc, according to the usual placement rules (only one Family member per Round).

  • X01 – Extraterrestrial Excrement (A Plant is a pile of grain or vegetables that is growing on one of your fields or field cards.)
  • X02 – Homemade Space Rocket
  • X03 – Transmogrifier (You may cook the animals immediately, if you have a Cooking Improvement.)

Merchants from Outer Space

All these guys want is to trade with you. Put them beside the board until a player is ready to give them what they want (you must pay all the costs at the same time) and reap the reward.

  • X04 – Merchants of Jupiter
  • X05 – Merchants of Mars
  • X06 – Merchants of Pluto

Alien Artefacts

These are wonderful gifts that the Aliens bring for you. When you draw an Alien Artefact card, place it with your played Minor Improvement cards.

  • X07 – Ley Lines
  • X08 – Strange Alien Energy
  • X09 – Alien Farmhand
  • X10 – Replicator (The Replicator only doubles goods that are on or are received from the Action space, not goods or additional goods that you receive through the effects of cards.)
  • X11 – The X File
  • X12 – Furry Friends (Use paper, coins, whatever you have on hand to represent the Space Woozles.)

Alien Events

These are a new type of card for Agricola. When an Event card is drawn, it is resolved immediately. Events may be good or bad; you may not choose not to play an Event. Some effects take place immediately, some in later rounds, some at the end of the game and some continuously.

  • X13 – Space Diner at the end of the Galaxy
  • X14 – Earth Girls are Easy
  • X15 – Tripods
  • X16 – Beam me down, Welshie
  • X17 – Candy Trail (Use paper, coins, whatever to represent the Candy. We do not recommend using actual candy: not even aliens like sticky cards. Keep the Victory Points written on the scoresheet whether or not you collect all the Candy.)
  • X18 – I am your father ... (A "child" is a player's 3rd, 4th or 5th Family member. Either player may use Family Growth actions as usual to grow their family back to a maximum of 5 people. A player with 5 Family members cannot use this card.)
  • X19 – Alien Abduction
  • X20 – Darling, I shrunk ... (Your animals still count for the usual number of Points at the end of the game. The effects of this card are so strong, all animals that you acquire in the future are shrunk as well. "Converted to Food" means the same as "Cooked".)
  • X21 – Mind the Jets! (If your home is destroyed, its spaces count as "unused" and your family sleeps under the stars until it is rebuilt. You must take a Renovate action to renovate to a new Wooden hut.)
  • X22 – Carbonite Cousin (You could choose the Action space for the next round, as that Action will be available when the Carbonite Cousin is placed.)
  • X23 – Crop Circles

Alien Occupation

There is one Alien Occupation in the X deck. When you draw it, place it with your other played Occupation cards.

  • X24 – Rebel
