Č Deck
The Č deck (12 Occupation cards and 12 Minor Improvement cards) is based on well-known people, places and historical events of the Czech Republic and is illustrated in the spirit of the legendary artist Josef Lada.
Occupations
Bagpiper
Get 2 Food. The Family member who occupies the "Occupation" action space returns to the house as if it had not yet taken any action this round. (You place this Family member again on your turn.) The "Occupation" action space becomes unoccupied and can be used again.
Bureaucrat
Place up to 3 Food from your supply on this card. Once per round you may give 1 Food from this card in order to place a Family member on an action space already occupied by another Family member (your own or another player's). (You may take Food back from this card into your supply at any time.)
Governor
Immediately take the top 4 Occupation cards from the deck and choose two of them. You may (if the conditions on the card are met) play one card immediately for free, and take the second into your hand. If the conditions are not met, or if you decide not to play a card, take both cards into your hand.
Hero
Immediately get 3 Food. Once per game you may give 1 Boar to immediately take the "Family Growth" action without placing a Family member. The new Family member cannot take actions until the next round, and it requires a room in the house.
Jack-of-all-Trades
Discard all the Occupation cards you have already played. (All their effects are lost.) Once per round you may give 1 Food to adopt an Occupation played by another player. You receive all of its benefits except those granted at the moment the card is played or at the end of the game. As soon as you play another Occupation, you must discard the "Jack-of-all-Trades" card.
Only Child
If 3/6/9 full rounds remain until the end of the game, you immediately receive 1/2/3 Wood. You also receive 3 bonus points if at the end of the game you have exactly 3 Family members. (Beggar tokens are not counted as Family members.)
Robber
Once per round, during your turn, you may skip placing a Family member. Instead, take 1 Food or 1 Wood from the general supply. You may skip your turn only if at least one other player has one or more Family members to place.
Saint Nicholas
Count how many Family members have been born during the game so far, and immediately take that many Food (maximum 6). (Newborns that are still on the "Family Growth" action space already count as Family members.) All players with the fewest newborn Family members (including you) immediately receive 1 Vegetable each.
Seeress
Get 1 Stone from the general supply and look at the top 3 cards of the round deck, then place them back in any order. (These cards do not have to be matched to the game phase.) In addition, at any moment of the game you may look at the top round card.
Snitch
Turn one Occupation card you have played face down. In exchange you may take 5 Food or 1 Cattle from the general supply. You lose all benefit from the turned-over Occupation card. (For future Occupations and Improvements this Occupation continues to count as played.)
Teacher of Nations
All players may give 1 less Food when they play an Occupation. As soon as one of your opponents uses this discount, you receive 1 Food from the general supply.
Weekend Worker
When renovating, you may build one additional room, paying 1 Reed, 1 basic building resource for the Wooden Hut (Wood or Clay) and 2 building resources for the new type of dwelling (Clay or Stone).
Minor Improvements
Beer Festival
Requires 3 or more Family members.
When you play this card, you may immediately take the "Bake Bread" action. If at the end of the game you have at least 3/6/9 Food left, you receive 1/2/3 bonus points.
Bible
Requires 1 Occupation.
Each Family member that performed one of the following actions in the round ending with a Harvest requires 1 less Food during the Harvest: "Plow 1 Field", "Plow 1 Field and/or Sow", "1 Grain", "1 Vegetable" or "Day Laborer".
Chapel
The Chapel is an additional action space. Players using this action space may discard up to two Begging cards. Each Begging card costs 1 Stone, placed on the Chapel. At the end of the game each Stone on this card is worth 1 bonus point.
Five-Year Plan
Requires 2 Occupations and 1 unsown Field.
Mark 1 unsown Field with a claim marker. This field can no longer be plowed; from now on it counts not as a Field but simply as an occupied space on the farm. You may immediately sow all the remaining empty Fields. Additionally, place 2 Grain or 2 Vegetables on each Field you sowed in this way.
Golden Hands
When you play a Minor or Major Improvement, you may replace 1 unit of a building resource with another.
Golem
Requires 1 Oven or Cooking Hearth.
Place the 2 Clay paid for this card on it. At the start of each of the next two rounds, return 1 Clay from this card to the general supply. In these two rounds, the first Family member you place uses the action space on the game board twice in a row. On accumulating action spaces this means that during the second action you can take as many resources as would normally be placed there at the start of the round from the general supply.
Hunger Wall
During each Harvest any player may give 1 Clay instead of the 2 Food required to feed one of the Family members. Such Clay is collected on this card. At the end of the game you receive 1 bonus point for every 2 Clay on the card.
Hops Field
Requires 1 unsown Field.
You may immediately give 1 to 4 Wood to place the same number of fences on one of your unsown Fields. From now on this Field cannot be plowed, but it counts as a Field at the end of the game. For each fence on the Field you immediately receive 1 Food, and 1 bonus point at the end of the game.
Schoolhouse
At any moment, instead of playing one Minor or Major Improvement, you may adopt 1 Occupation. The cost of such an Occupation is 1 Food.
Venus of Dolní Věstonice
When using the action "Family Growth, then Minor Improvement", you may perform Family Growth twice with this Family member. (The action space becomes available in rounds 5–7. Even if you take the action twice, you may build no more than one Minor Improvement.)
Wagon Fort
You may give 1 Wood and place one unused fence on each empty space of your farm. At any time you may take any of these fences back into your supply. If fences are still on spaces at the end of the game, those spaces count as occupied.
Wine Cellar
Requires 1 unfenced Stable.
Convert 1 unfenced Stable into a Wine Cellar by laying its tile on its side. No more animals may be kept in the Stable. In the field phase of each Harvest you receive 2 Food from the general supply. The space counts as occupied. A Wine Cellar is not considered a Stable. If you fence the space, you may use it as a Pasture.
L Deck
The L deck. Nobody knows exactly what the "L" stands for. Some believe it comes from "Panorama" (Lookout Games), others insist on "Looneys". Decide for yourself, but do not take it too seriously.
Occupations
Anthropologist
When you play this Occupation, you may replicate one Occupation that another player has already played.
Bean Farmer
Once you have played the "Bean Farmer", no opponent may change the order of the cards in their hand; they may only play the top card. (For example, if the first card is an Occupation, a Minor Improvement cannot be played.)
Bearded One
Play this Occupation before the start of the game. It counts as your first Occupation. The player with the hairiest face may choose the starting player.
Dispatcher
At any moment you may exchange 2 Food for 1 building resource of your choice.
Drudgeflayer
Set a timer for 1 hour. If it rings before the start of round 14, finish only the current round. The game ends early.
Franz
At any moment you may give this card to a player who is taking too long to consider their move, and in exchange place one of your Family members. (That player loses their turn, but may use the "Franz" card later.) If you played the "Franz" card during the game by passing it to another player, you may say "I am not Franz!" and receive 1 bonus point.
Master Artist
When using the "Traveling Players" action, you may draw a caricature of one of your opponents on a sheet of paper. All other players, starting with the first, try to guess who it is in a single attempt. The first player to guess receives 2 Food from you, and you receive 1 bonus point. (If nobody guesses, you do not receive a bonus point.)
Pink Goddess
If during the game you correctly answer another player's question about the rules of the game, you receive 1 bonus point (write it down). (If they ask the question in a foreign language, you receive 2 bonus points.)
Simplifier
Occupation cards with more than 4 lines of text in their description no longer have any effect until the end of the game.
Tie-Breaker
If two players are tied on points at the end of the game, you win. (It does not matter for which place the tie occurs.)
Wargamer
When you play the "Wargamer", you may immediately take one animal of your choice from each player, if you are able to stack their tokens on top of each other using tweezers. There must be enough room on your farm for the animals.
Wives
Once per round you may turn over an Occupation belonging to one of your opponents. Turned-over cards no longer have any effect until the end of the game, but still count as played Occupations. At the end of the game each of them is worth 1 victory point.
Z-Man
When you play this Occupation, you may bring into play for free all cards from your hand whose name or description text contains the letter "Z". (The expansion symbol does not count.)
Major Improvements
Playing Card Factory
Starting with the owner of the "Playing Card Factory", each player (clockwise) must name a number of victory points. The player with the highest number receives 2 bonus points at the end of the game if they reach at least the number they named. Otherwise the player loses 3 points. (Experienced players are advised to use the bidding levels for Skat: 18–20–22–23–24–27–30–33–35–36–40–44–45–46–48.)
Ö Deck
The Ö deck: 12 new Occupation cards and 12 new Minor Improvement cards, including a child prodigy, a sofa guy, a singing family from the Alps and, of course, one particular Governor.
Occupations
Action Artist
When you take the "Traveling Players" action on an action space, you may return 1 animal of your choice to the general supply and receive 4 Food for it. (Improvements related to cooking are not required.)
Big Baker
When another player receives 2 or more animals of one type, you may buy one of them from them. A Sheep costs 2 Food, a Boar costs 3 Food, and a Cattle costs 4 Food.
Building Tycoon
When another player builds at least one room, you may give them 1 Food and immediately build exactly one room yourself. (You must pay the cost of building a room.)
Child Prodigy
When you have Family Growth, you may give 1 (or 2) Wood for 1 (or 2) bonus points.
Environmentalist
When you play or buy an Improvement, you may replace 1 building resource of your choice with one Wood.
Family Singers
During the action phase you may place any number of Family members on the "Family Singers" space instead of an action space. For each Family member on this space you receive 1 bonus point.
Lovable Vagabond
If during the Harvest feeding phase you have no Food and need to take one or more Begging cards, you receive one fewer Begging card.
Magnate
When you play this card, immediately receive 2 Stone. At the end of the game, the player with the most building resources receives 3 points.
Opinion Leader
At the start of each round you may mark one action space of your choice with a claim marker. Any player may use this action space during that round. (Action spaces on which goods are placed cannot be marked.) Remove the marker at the end of each round.
Ski Instructor
When another player has performed Family Growth, they must give you 1 Food (or, if necessary, beg for Food). Turn the "Ski Instructor" card face down immediately once you have performed Family Growth yourself. You no longer receive its benefit, but it still counts as a played Occupation.
Therapist
When you play this card, you may give 2 Food to immediately adopt one more Occupation. When another player adopts an Occupation, you may give them 1 Food. In return they must, if possible, play another Occupation card.
Waltzer
You may place two Family members one after the other if both action spaces are on the same board and border each other (not diagonally).
Minor Improvements
Coffee House
The "Coffee House" is an action space for all players. When a player uses the "Coffee House", both they and the card's owner receive 1 Food from the general supply. (If you use the card yourself, you receive 2 Food.) In the following round, a Family member on this space may take its action before the first player places their Family member.
Compulsory Education
Requires 1 Occupation.
When you have Family Growth, you may give 1 Food to immediately adopt an Occupation. (If you are also playing a Minor Improvement, adopt the Occupation first.)
Emergency Housing
Requires at least 1 Stable.
Choose one of your Stables. It now becomes a room for your Family members. The Stable loses its original purpose, but it still counts as 1 additional point if it is fenced.
Farmers' Ball
Requires 3 Occupations.
When this card is played, each player who immediately gives 5 Food to the general supply receives 3 bonus points.
Guest Worker
Requires more rooms than Family members.
Take a Guest token. From the next round you may place it by the rules as a Family member. The "Guest Worker" may occupy the very last card of the round, even if it has already been occupied. It takes up a room in your house and consumes 2 Food during the Family feeding phase at each Harvest.
Lederhosen
Requires 3 Occupations.
For each Sheep you converted into Food, place 1 Food from the general supply on this card. If at the end of the game there is at least as much Food on this card as you have Family members, you receive 2 bonus points; if there is twice as much, you receive 3 bonus points.
Neutrality
Requires 2 Occupations.
In the following round you may place your Family members only after all other players have placed theirs. For each Family member placed late, you receive 1 bonus point.
Schnitzel Mallet
Requires 2 Occupations.
For each Cattle you converted into Food using an Improvement related to cooking, you receive 1 additional Food and 1 bonus point.
Spielefest
Requires 3 Occupations.
The "Spielefest" is an action space for all players. When a player visits the Spielefest, they give the card's owner 1 Food and receive 2 bonus points. (You may visit the Spielefest yourself.)
Styrian Oak
Requires 1 Occupation.
Place 5 Food from the general supply on the Styrian Oak card. At the start of each round you may return 1 Food from it to the general supply. Once per game, at any time, you may give the amount of Food still remaining on this card (from 0 to 5) to receive 6 Wood from the general supply.
Unusual Architecture
When you extend your house by one or more rooms, you receive 2 Food for each new room.
Vineyard
When performing the "Sow" action, you may plant up to 3 Food on this card. In total no more than 3 Food may be planted on it. This Food is sown in the same way as Grain and is collected at the Harvest. (This card does not count as a Field when scoring.)
X Deck
The legendary X deck contains 24 alien encounter cards for the farm. Each time a player visits the Stone Quarry, a card is drawn from the deck. The introductory fiction of the source is omitted here; only the rules and card texts are transcribed.
Rules
Aliens appear when players visit the Stone Quarry, that is, after the "1 Stone" card has been revealed in Stage II (rounds 5–7). When a player chooses this action, they also draw the top card of the Alien Encounter deck (X deck). (Note that this does not apply to the "1 Stone" card revealed during Stage IV (rounds 10–11).) Naturally, you may take all the Stone from the action space.
The X deck has five types of cards:
- Alien Actions
- Space Traders
- Alien Artifacts
- Alien Events
- Alien Occupation
Source note: the closing parenthesis after "(rounds 10–11)" is missing in the source text and has been added in translation.
Alien Actions
These cards are placed face up next to the game board. They become ordinary action spaces and may be occupied by any Family member in accordance with the placement rules (only one Family member per round).
Extraterrestrial Excrement (X01)
Clarification: a "sprout" is a set of Grain or Vegetables growing on one of your Fields or on cards with a Field.
Immediately place one additional Grain on each sprout with Grain and one additional Vegetable on each sprout with Vegetables.
Homemade Space Rocket (X02)
Pay 2 Wood, 2 Clay, 1 Reed and 1 Stone to receive 4 bonus points. Write them down.
Transmogrifier (X03)
Clarification: you may cook animals immediately if you have an Improvement that relates to cooking them.
Exchange all resources of one type in your supply for an equal number of resources of any other type. (You may, for example, exchange all your Reed for Cattle, but you must place or cook them immediately.)
Or exchange all resources or animals of one type from an action space for another type of goods. (You benefit from this only if you perform two actions in a row.)
Space Traders
Place these cards next to the game board and keep them there until a player is ready to give what is required (the full cost must be paid at once) and receive the reward.
Merchants of Jupiter (X04)
The player who first builds 1 Stable and additionally gives 2 Reed receives this card. (It is worth 2 points at the end of the game.)
Merchants of Mars (X05)
The player who first performs the regular "Family Growth" action (if there is a free room in the house) and additionally gives 2 Food receives this card. (It is worth 2 points at the end of the game.)
Merchants of Pluto (X06)
The player who first performs the regular "Fences" action and additionally gives 2 Stone receives this card. (It is worth 2 points at the end of the game.)
Alien Artifacts
These are beautiful gifts the aliens give you. If an alien artifact card is drawn, place it next to your played Minor Improvements.
Ley Lines (X07)
At the end of the game you receive 1 bonus point for each:
- vertical row of three rooms;
- vertical row of three Fields;
- Pasture of three spaces that occupies an entire vertical row (3 spaces) on your farm.
(If your player board is placed vertically, rotate it 90° when scoring for this card.)
Strange Alien Energy (X08)
Place 3 Guest markers on this card. At the start of the Return Home phase in any round, before players take back their Family member tokens, you may move one marker from this card to any unoccupied action space. (As a result you get 3 additional actions.)
Alien Farmhand (X09)
Immediately place one claim marker on an action space that provides resources or animals. In the Return Home phase of any round, if this action was not taken, you may take one of these goods.
Replicator (X10)
Clarification: the Replicator doubles only goods that are on the action space or were received from it, not goods or extra goods you receive by applying card effects.
The next time you take goods from an action space, you receive double the number of them.
As soon as you have received goods, give this card to the player on your left.
The X File (X11)
When you pay Wood for building Fences, Stables or rooms, pay 1 Wood less in total.
Furry Friends (X12)
Clarification: use paper, coins, or anything else at hand to depict the Cosmic Nodes.
Place 2 Cosmic Node markers on this card. At each Harvest, each pair of Cosmic Nodes reproduces one more Cosmic Node. After the reproduction process you must feed each Cosmic Node 1 Food. If you cannot or do not want to feed a Cosmic Node, it escapes. You lose 1 point for each escaped Cosmic Node. At the end of the game each Cosmic Node on this card is worth 1 point.
Alien Events
This is a new card type for Agricola. When an event card is drawn, it takes effect immediately. Events may be good or bad; you cannot choose whether an event happens. Some effects take effect at once, others in later rounds, some at the end of the game, and some continue throughout the game.
Space Diner at the End of the Galaxy (X13)
At the end of the game all scoring takes place in the Space Diner at the End of the Galaxy. The player who scores 42 points automatically wins.
Earth Girls Are Easy (X14)
Immediately perform "Family Growth", even without a free room in the house.
Tripods (X15)
The aliens brought Tripods with them to observe the farmers. In each round, during the Return Home phase, each player must give 1 good as an offering. If a player cannot give a good, the aliens kill one of their Family members. Players must give 1 Food whenever they perform any "Family Growth".
Beam Me Down, Welshie (X16)
You decide where each other player places their next Family member. (The action must be chosen in accordance with the rules. If all of a player's Family members have already been placed in the current round, you decide where their first Family member is placed in the next round.) Resistance is futile.
Candy Trail (X17)
Clarification: use paper, coins, or anything else at hand to depict the candy. Real candy is not recommended, since even aliens dislike sticky hands. Write the victory points down in a notebook, or you will not get any of the sweets.
Choose how many bonus points you want to score (2, 3, 4, 5 or 6) and write them down. For each of these bonus points, place two markers on action spaces. All action spaces chosen in this way must be different. Your Family members must collect these markers by performing actions on the chosen spaces. You lose 1 bonus point for each marker you have not collected by the end of the game.
I Am Your Father… (X18)
Clarification: a "child" is a player's 3rd, 4th or 5th Family member. Each player may use "Family Growth" actions to grow their family back up to 5 Family members. A player with five Family members cannot use this card.
You may adopt one child from another player's family. To do so you must give them 5 resources. Exchange this Family member's token for your own (from the supply). You do not need a free room in the house. (You must perform this action immediately or it has no effect.)
Alien Abduction (X19)
Immediately receive 1 Sheep, 1 Boar and 1 Cattle. You immediately lose the Family member who performed this action, and you will never see them again. (Of course, the Family member can be replaced by performing "Family Growth".)
Darling, I Shrunk… (X20)
Clarification: animals still score points at the end of the game. The effect of this card is so strong that all animals acquired in the future will also be shrunk. "Converted into Food" means the same as "cooked".
The aliens have halved your animals. From now on your Pastures and Stables hold twice as many animals. The house does not. Unfortunately, all animals also provide you with half as much Food (rounded down) when you convert them into Food.
Mind the Jets! (X21)
Clarification: if your house is destroyed, the spaces under it count as unoccupied and your family sleeps under the stars until the house is rebuilt. You must perform the "Renovation" action to restore the house to a Wooden Hut.
Flying saucers visit every farm. Their jet engines accidentally burn all rooms in Wooden Huts, cement all rooms in Clay Huts into rooms of a Stone House, and have no effect on Stone Houses. (Any player left without a dwelling may build a two-room Wooden Hut for 2 Wood and 1 Reed.)
Carbonite Cousin (X22)
Clarification: you may choose an action space in the following round, since this action will be available to you when the Carbonite Cousin is discarded.
The Family member who performed this action is frozen in bitumen. They are rescued after 3 rounds in the Return Home phase. In the meantime, place a claim marker on any action space of your choice. At the start of the next round, place the Family member on that action space and perform it before the first player takes their first action.
Crop Circles (X23)
Place this card on your farm so that it occupies two spaces. They count as occupied, but can no longer be used for anything. (If you place this card over something already built, that building is razed to the ground.)
Alien Occupation
In the X deck there is one alien Occupation card. If you draw it, place it next to your played Occupations.
Rebel (X24)
The Family member who performed this action decides to devote the rest of the game to the rebel cause. Place it on this card. It remains on this card until the end of the game, but still requires a room and Food during the Harvest.
