Overview

This expansion contains new Event cards, New Ally and Henchman cards, a new Profession (Aoxcraft), new Item cards, and several new tokens to enhance your gaming experience.

How to Fit This Expansion Into Your Game

Before you play the first tutorial:

  • Read the Card Dividers section.
  • Place the new tokens in the following places: The Ravenous Guivren board and Henchman tokens in the Standees tray, the Aoxling Pet token with the other Pet tokens, and the Lok Torr Door token with the Scenario specific tokens in the Stock tray.

When you arrive in Runedale:

  • Read the Ravenous Guivren Board and New Event Cards sections.

When you reach Level 2:

  • Read the New Profession: Aoxcraft and New Henchmen sections.

Before playing Scenario 16 at Level 3:

  • Read the Lok Torr Door Token section.

When required:

  • Read the New Item Cards and Lugat Ally Card sections.

Card Dividers

Place the card dividers in the appropriate places in the card boxes and trays. They will help you find cards more easily.

There is one "Extra Content" divider of each size. Cards from expansions may be placed behind these dividers, or placed with similar cards from the base game as you see fit.

New Event Cards

When setting up the City Event deck for your Campaign (see Book 1, the Campaign Book, page 20), add City Event cards 033 and 036.

Similarly, when setting up the World Event deck, add World Event cards 033 and 036.

Note: If you have the Promo Event cards from the original Kickstarter (numbered 033: Gaming Den and Man Versus Figurine), make sure not to add a second copy of those Event cards.

If you are not playing the Hero Garuk in your campaign, add City Event card 037 to the City Event deck.

Ravenous Guivren Board

During the setup of each City phase, place the Ravenous Guivren board next to the City map. From level 2 onwards, place a standee on the Ravenous Guivren board for each Henchman available to be hired at the Ravenous Guivren's Hire Henchman service.

During the City phase, if a Hero pays for the Rent a Room service at the Ravenous Guivren, place their Hero miniature on the Ravenous Guivren board to show they will not be getting the Disturbed Sleep penalty at the end of that City phase. This also allows the Hero to use the "A Night at the Guivren" service shown on the Ravenous Guivren board.

Service: A Night at the Guivren

The bard plays his lute, people are laughing and swapping stories, and the tasty wines put everyone in a good mood. An evening at The Ravenous Guivren is once again a pleasant way to end a hard day.

A Hero must have their Hero miniature on the Ravenous Guivren board to use this service. You may only use this service once during each City phase, but more than one Hero may use it at the same time. Each Hero using the service must spend a City Activity point and you roll the Counter die once and apply the same result to each of those Heroes.

The table showing the results is on page 8. Only read the result for your roll so as not to spoil the surprise of the other results.

New Profession: Aoxcraft

A new profession is available to choose from level 2 onwards. It follows the normal rules for professions except that it is not shown in the Campaign book at a specific location. Note that there are 2 Master Talent cards for the Aoxcraft profession. You may gain both.

Aoxcraft Talents may only be used during the City step.

Profession: Aoxcraft

Among the many traders and merchants in Runedale there are sellers of curios and knick-knacks. Occasionally you notice an item for sale that has a faint aura of Aox around it. You doubt the seller knows. It could be useful to someone interested in the sciences to help them unlock the demonic mysteries of Aoxcraft. The curios are cheap enough to buy, but learning the craft has other costs.

  • City Activity point + suffer 3 damage » Gain the Aoxcraft Profession card

From level 3 onwards, if you have learned all 5 basic Aoxcraft Talents, you may:

  • City Activity point + suffer 3 damage » Gain an Aoxcraft Master Talent card

Aoxcraft Talents

Summon Aoxling: Gain Item card 160 "Aoxling". This pet may only be trained with the Train Aoxling talent.

Aox Amulet: Spend 1 Star to gain an Aox Amulet token.

Blood Crystal: Spend a City Activity point and suffer 1 damage to gain a Blood Crystal token.

Scrolls of Darkness: Discard a Blood Crystal token to gain Item card 162 "Curse of Loathing", or discard a Blood Crystal token and suffer 1 damage to gain Item card 161 "Curse of Flames".

Train Aoxling: Suffer 1 damage to flip Item card 160 "Aoxling" to its trained side until the start of the next City step.

Aoxcraft Master Talents

Demon Eye: Discard a Blood Crystal token and suffer 1 damage to gain a Demon Eye token.

Curse of Whispers: Discard a Demon Eye token to gain Item card 163 "Curse of Whispers".

New Henchmen

When you reach level 2, shuffle the 4 new Henchman cards together with the 8 Henchman cards from the base game to create the Henchman deck. This deck now consists of 12 cards rather than 8.

Starting at level 2, when you visit the Ravenous Guivren's Hire Henchman service for the first time at each level, reveal the top 3 Henchman cards instead of the top 2.

Each Henchman now has their own Henchman standee you may use to represent them instead of the red Henchman token from the base game.

The Henchmen in this expansion have their short background story on page 7 of this book (shown by [K2] on their card).

Ally Effects

  • [maneuver] [maneuver] » Teleport•5: Spend two maneuvers to Teleport 5.
  • [1-3 roll] [attack symbol] 2 [damage]: Perform a straight line attack. Each Enemy attacked suffers 2 damage. See "Straight Line Attacks" in the "Hero Actions" section of the base game Rules Reference.
  • 2 [damage] + Pierce•1: This attack does 2 damage and has Pierce•1.
  • With other Ally/Pet: 3 [damage] + Pierce•1: This attack does 3 damage and has Pierce•1. You may only target an Enemy with this attack if they are in an area that contains another Ally or a Pet figure.
  • [maneuver] » [Invisible condition symbol]: Spend a maneuver to gain the Invisible condition.

Lok Torr Door Token

The Lok Toor Door token is used in scenarios 16A, 16B, and 16C to represent the door you are attempting to open in that scenario. Place it above the middle of the top edge of the scenario map as follows:

  • Scenario 16A: Above area [A].
  • Scenario 16B: Above area [J].
  • Scenario 16C: Above the 2 middle areas at the far end of the hall.

The token has no effect on gameplay, it is just a helpful reminder of where the door is.

(The heading reads "Lok Torr Door Token" and the body reads "Lok Toor Door token" as printed.)

New Item Cards

160 Aoxling

See the rules for Pets and Fly in the base game Rules Reference.

You may place the Aoxling standee on the map. The Aoxling has Fly. Each Enemy moving out of an area in line of sight and within range 1 of the standee suffers 1 damage. Each Enemy may only suffer this damage once during its turn.

Trained: The Aoxling's movement value increases to 2.

161 Curse of Flames

Spend a maneuver. Discard to make an area 1 magic attack using 2 [red die]. Each [die symbol] you roll may be used to add 2 successes to your roll. You may not spend stamina to increase this further.

162 Curse of Loathing

Spend a maneuver. Discard to Push•2 all Enemies in line of sight within range 1.

163 Curse of Whispers

Spend a maneuver. Discard to Summon a Lugat Ally in line of sight within range 1. Roll a [blue die]. If you roll [light blue die], suffer 3 damage.

Use the Lugat Ally card for this summons.

See the rules for Summoned Allies in the base game Rules Reference.

164 The Snake Card

Discard to reroll all [red die] during one attack. Roll 2 more [red die] than normal during the reroll.

Lugat Ally Card

The Lugat Ally card is used with Item card 163 "Curse of Whispers". It has one new effect not explained in the base game Rules Reference:

  • Drain: The Lugat may spend a maneuver to give its Void Bolt or Claw attack Drain this turn.

Henchman Stories

Zhinbo the Sha Nnuq (Xi-noq Mystic)

After its triad was killed by demons, Zhin chose to foresake its homeland and is now an outcast. As Zhinbo it has dedicated its life to hunting down demons and those who worship them.

Suasang (Pattangan Ranger)

Her heart was strong and her liver full of courage as she left to find a new homeland for her tribe. Her husband and children await at home, eagerly anticipating the money she sends them.

Ukko (Quothian Assassin)

The quothians keep males in pens, without names or clothes. Ukko chose a different life. Having broken out of his pen, he escaped Heartwood, and has found a new life for himself as master of his own destiny.

Astria of the Second Circle (Nihteegri Warlock)

Astria excels in scholarly pursuits, but keeps failing at life. A series of broken relationships led to drinking, which led to more broken relationships. But unlike her decision making, her magical abilities can always be trusted.

A Night at the Guivren Table

Where an entry says "Each Hero", it applies only to the Heroes using this service. Do not read any entries in the following table until instructed to do so.

Each entry shows its result number, then the result name. Symbols shown on the sheet are given in brackets (see the Table of Contents note).

0 » Ambush

You are sitting quietly at your table going through your future plans when you are ambushed by a group of hoodlums. You manage to push them away and get to your feet. After some blows are traded it becomes clear this was an assassination attempt. Unsuccessful, they jump into the street through the open window and yell they will be back. You are left wondering who was behind the attack.

  • Each Hero: [damage symbol] 3 [ability symbol] (reactive ability check to reduce damage)

1 » Tavern Brawl

Some drunken patrons are trying to pick a fight, so Leon the bouncer orders them to leave. Other customers get angry at Leon's tone and start yelling at him, then some locals stand up and start pushing the original troublemakers. Somebody punches somebody, who then falls on a group of drunken mercenaries, and soon the whole tavern is brawling, and you have to defend yourselves.

  • Each Hero: [stamina symbol] 3 [ability symbol] (reactive ability check to reduce stamina loss)

2 » Hail Hur-Ishtanim!

A mysterious hooded stranger is sitting alone, mumbling to themselves. They keep staring into the dark corners of the ceiling and are nursing a drink that they have not yet touched. Suddenly they get up and yell at the top of their lungs: "Hur-Ishtanim sees all."

The name evokes dread and a sense of corruption, and for a moment you even think you smell the stench of aox.

  • » "Hail Hur-Ishtanim" in your Party Journal » Each Hero gains [gem symbol].
  • » Otherwise » Each Hero: [ability symbol] 5 [dice symbol] +2 [symbol]
    • Fail » Gain [gem symbol].

If you wish to avoid the Cursed condition, all players whose Heroes (at least 2) are using this service must make a circle by joining their hands, and then repeat loudly three times, "Hail Hur-Ishtanim!"

3 » Party Games

A caravan has arrived in town and the Guivren is full of travelers, traders, and the mercenaries escorting them. Slightly drunken contests start at several tables.

Each Hero chooses one competition to take part in. Once all Heroes have chosen, perform the necessary contests. In the case of a tie, decide the winner randomly among the tied Heroes using whichever method you prefer.

  • A. Arm Wrestling » Each Hero taking part: [ability symbols] ? +2 (Jonai +1 [symbol])
    • The Hero with the highest result gains 3 [Star] as long as they rolled at least 5 [symbol].
  • B. Pinfinger » Each Hero taking part: [ability symbols] ? +2 (Drenosh +1 [symbol])
    • The Hero with the highest result gains 3 [Star] as long as they rolled at least 6 [symbol].
  • C. Storytelling Contest » Each Hero taking part: [ability symbols] ? +2 (Garuk +2 [symbol])
    • The Hero with the highest result gains 3 [Star] as long as they rolled at least 6 [symbol].

4 » Bouncer in Trouble

As Leon the bouncer is trying to throw some known criminals out of the bar, they start to fight back. They are clearly no strangers to violence and even have some magical tricks up their sleeves. Some of the local mercenaries try to help Leon, and you quickly decide on a plan to help him as well.

  • Each Hero: [ability symbols] ? +2 [symbol]
    • » If the total number of successes is 4 or more (1 Hero rolled), 9 or more (2 Heroes rolled), 13 or more (3 Heroes rolled), or 18 or more (4 Heroes rolled):
      • You get the better of the lowlifes and help Leon throw them out. You are given a reward for your troubles. Each Hero gains 2 [Star]. If you have any Henchman in the Ravenous Guivren, choose one. Add a tally mark after their name in your Party Journal (maximum 2 tally marks). If you just added the second tally mark after their name, place a Henchman Level sticker on their Henchman card. That Henchman gains the permanent bonus shown below the sticker.
    • » Otherwise:
      • The lowlifes temporarily get the better of you. They leave the bar while laughing and joking about their prowess. Each Hero loses 1 stamina.

5 » Oh, it's him. Great

The korallian hero Yaz'sor'Sai the Good is holding court at the best table. He is surrounded by a fawning audience, most of whom seem to be a part of his entourage, or adventuring party, as he calls it. He is telling entertaining stories of his heroic deeds when he starts a new one that is actually about something you just did. You must grab everyone's attention and tell them what actually happened!

  • Each Hero: [ability symbols] ? +2 (+1 to the total if your previous scenario had a scenario success outcome)
    • » If the total number of successes is 4 or more (1 Hero rolled), 8 or more (2 Heroes rolled), 12 or more (3 Heroes rolled), or 16 or more (4 Heroes rolled):
      • You explain what actually happened and even manage to show proof. Yaz'sor'Sai the Good leaves with his gills limp, followed by his party. The bard starts to compose a song about your deeds. Each Hero gains an Achievement gem [gem symbol].
    • » Otherwise:
      • Even though you are right, no one is willing to listen to you, as Yaz'sor'Sai regales them with his storytelling. It is a bitter experience. The bard starts to compose a song about Yaz'sor'Sai's deeds.

6 » Drinking Contest

The mercenaries at the next table boast about being able to outdrink anyone in the bar. Such a challenge must be accepted! No one will outdrink you! Other patrons want in on the contest, too. The innkeeper, seeing an opportunity, promises rewards to the best drinkers.

  • Each Hero may: [ability symbols] ? +2 (Torrax: +1 [symbol])
    • Add together your levels in the abilities shown (Might and Will) to determine the number of Action dice you should roll for this check.
    • You may spend stamina to gain 1 success for each stamina spent.
    • 8-9 » Gain 3 [Star]
    • 10 or more » Gain 5 [Star]

The next morning you pay the price of the previous night, and see tiny togrels sneaking around the corners of the room.

7 » Herb Merchant

An Amethyst Order merchant with shining rings and clothes of quothian silk has just returned from his travels and tells you he specializes in rare herbs. He shows you a strange plant and tells you he got it from Ban-Daryan Hebath.

"The moving city of the pattangans is built on the backs of giant holy lizards. The Painted King impressed me greatly, even if I mostly worked with one of his daughters, the Merchant Princess. Here, have a free sample!"

  • Each Hero gains a herb Item token [herb symbol] / [herb symbol] / [herb symbol] / [herb symbol] / [herb symbol] of their choice.

8 » Pet Fight

Patrons often bring their pets into the Ravenous Guivren. Unfortunately, on this occasion one of them is not getting along with some of the other animals here. While the pet is brave, it looks like it will soon get eaten if someone does not interfere. The owner does their best to command their pet, but is afraid to get too close to the fight.

  • Each Hero: [ability symbols] ? +2 (Pet Trainer profession: +2 [symbol], each illegal Pet card you have: -1 [symbol])
    • » If the total number of successes is 4 or more (1 Hero rolled), 9 or more (2 Heroes rolled), 13 or more (3 Heroes rolled), or 18 or more (4 Heroes rolled):
      • The pets hiss at each other and at you, but you manage to calm the situation and return the pet safely to its owner. "Lanimora bless you, strangers," they say. Each Hero gains [gem symbol].
    • » Otherwise:
      • You do your best to stop the fighting. As you try to drag the animals apart, you get attacked, too. Each Hero loses 1 stamina.
    • » In either case: Flip one Hero's Pet card over to its trained side until the start of the next City step.

9 » Riabo Forlorn

The xi-noq purveyor of magical potions is sitting in the Ravenous Guivren, smoking a shisha. It seems lonely and you offer it your company. Riabo says it is missing its homeland of Giz and asks you to regale it with tales of your latest adventure. It listens with its eyes closed and thanks all of you, offering some bottles from its bag.

  • Each Hero may take a Potion Item card of their choice from the stock.

10 » A Magic Contest

A wealthy warlock is visiting the Tower of the White Circle, but spends his evenings going through the taverns in the town. Tonight at the Guivren he is drunkenly organizing a magic contest with fabulous prizes. The patrons line up to show their powers, but you are sure you can beat them.

  • Each Hero: [ability symbols] ? +2
    • » If the total number of successes is 4 or fewer (1 Hero rolled), 9 or fewer (2 Heroes rolled), 14 or fewer (3 Heroes rolled), or 19 or fewer (4 Heroes rolled):
      • A grumpy old man wins the contest with a show of magical dexterity.
    • » If the total number of successes is exactly 5 (1 Hero rolled), 10-11 (2 Heroes rolled), 15-17 (3 Heroes rolled), or 20-23 (4 Heroes rolled): You win second prize. Each Hero gains either a Lanium Bar [symbol], Magic Essence [symbol], or Silk [symbol].
    • » If the total number of successes is 6 or more (1 Hero rolled), 12 or more (2 Heroes rolled), 18 or more (3 Heroes rolled), or 24 or more (4 Heroes rolled):
      • You win first prize. Each Hero gains either a Runic Bone [symbol], Moonsilver Bar [symbol], or Embroidered Silk [symbol].

[symbol] » Blessed By Death

The sheet shows this entry with a symbol in place of a result number.

You are approached by a muscular, scarred nihteegri woman dressed in armor and a crimson robe.

"May the stars shine upon you," she says," and may Mazurak bless you. She is the goddess of war and death, and you have done great things in her service. Here is a holy icon of hers that will grant you power in your journey of death. When things seem bleakest, remember that Mazurak favors those who kill and die in battle."

She gives you a magical playing card that she claims is blessed by Mazurak herself.

The Hero with the fewest Achievement gems gains Item card 164 "The Snake Card". In the case of a tie, the tied Hero with the highest Taunt value gains the Item card.
