Taiwan (5-6 Players)
All basic rules apply except for the changes noted here.
Components
- 2-sheet map
Setup and Basics
Combine the two map sheets to form a single Taiwan map.
Place 3 goods on each purple city and 2 goods on each other city. Remove the purple new city tiles (F) from the game.
The seven purple cities on the west coast are considered virtually connected and are numbered 1 to 7 from north to south. Cities 1 to 4 (TAIPEI, TAOYUAN, MIAOLI, TAICHUNG) are considered North Taiwan. Cities 5 to 7 (PEIKANG, TAINAN, KAOHSIUNG) are considered South Taiwan.
How to Play
Track Laying
Track laying costs:
- Plains: $2
- Mountains (brown): $4
- Completing one link between two purple cities: an additional $3
Goods Transport
When transporting goods between purple cities, there are three additional transport methods.
- By spending one locomotive level, you may move 1 good from any purple city in North Taiwan to any other purple city in North Taiwan. This is bird movement, so no track needs to be laid. The player who transports the good gains +1 income.
- By spending one locomotive level, you may move 1 good from any purple city in South Taiwan to any other purple city in South Taiwan. This is bird movement, so no track needs to be laid. The player who transports the good gains +1 income.
- By spending two locomotive levels, you may move 1 good from any purple city in North Taiwan to any purple city in South Taiwan, or from any purple city in South Taiwan to any purple city in North Taiwan. This is bird movement, so no track needs to be laid. The player who transports the good gains +2 income.
Saint Petersburg (3-4 Players, 3 Recommended)
All basic rules apply except for the changes noted here.
Setup and Overview
Place 1 grey disc on the winter space in the top row of the map. This is the season disc. The game begins in winter!
Place 1 grey disc on the locomotive action space. This action block disc disables that action. During winter the locomotive action cannot be used, and during summer the urbanization action cannot be used.
The game ends one round earlier than usual.
Take goods from the bag and place 4 goods on each yellow city and each purple city. Place 1 good on each city of every other colour.
How to Play
Action Selection
Actions below the action block disc cannot be selected.
Track Laying
Track laying costs:
- Laying track on a suburban hex is free ($0). A suburban hex is a 100% beige hex (ignore the black parts such as roads, the legend and borders) in which no part of the hex overlaps the urban pattern.
- Laying track on one urban hex costs $2. An urban hex is any hex in which any part overlaps the urban pattern.
- Laying track on one green hex costs $3.
- During winter, track cannot be laid on river hexes.
- During summer, laying track on one river hex costs $4. (Rivers cost +$2, but since all rivers are in urban hexes, the total is $4.)
- Track can never be laid on sea hexes.
Action: Engineer
- Summer: Increase the number of track laid by 1.
- Winter: Lay track on river hexes at $5 per hex.
Advancing the Round Marker
Move the season disc to the opposite season. That is, if it is summer, move it to winter; if it is winter, move it to summer.
Move the action block disc. In summer it blocks the urbanization action; in winter it blocks the locomotive action.
Las Vegas (3-5 Players, 2022 Revised Edition)
All basic rules apply except for the changes noted here.
Components
Several coins are used, where 1 coin represents $5.
Setup
Place 5 goods at random on the red city in the centre of the map. Place 2 goods at random on each other city.
Place $5 under each red good on the cities.
In a 3-player game, block the engineer action with 1 grey disc.
As normal, place goods on all spaces of the goods display. Likewise, place $5 under each red good on the goods display.
How to Play
Track Laying
Track laying costs:
- Plains: $3
Goods Transport
Each time you transport a good to a city that has money on it, the transporting player may take $5 from the money on the destination city, and in addition earns income as normal.
Goods Replenishment
Each time a red good is moved onto the map, place $5 under that red good.
Advancing the Round Marker
In a 3-player game, move the grey disc that blocks an action. If the disc is on the engineer action, move it to block the urbanization action. If the disc is on the urbanization action, move it to block the engineer action.
