Components (Spielmaterial)
- 6 double-sided board sections. Assembled, they form a path with blue, red and yellow elephant footprints. One section carries the green start space, another the blue finish space.
- 165 cards. Each card shows a term, which is also depicted as a drawing. The card back shows an elephant footprint in blue, red or yellow.
- 2 wooden elephants
- 1 rulebook
Paper and a pencil are also required and are not included.
It may help to look through the cards together before the first game, so that the youngest players get to know the drawn terms.
Attention (Achtung!): Not suitable for children under 36 months. Contains small parts that can be swallowed. Choking hazard. Please keep the address.
Object of the Game (Spielziel)
The goal is to reach the blue finish space with the elephant, by having the terms conveyed through miming, drawing or a verbal description guessed.
Setup (Spielvorbereitung)
- Before the first game, carefully push the parts out of the punch-out boards.
- Place the two sections with the start and finish spaces, and connect them with the remaining four board sections in any arrangement. To shorten the game time, leave out one or more of the middle board sections.
- Shuffle the cards so that the differently coloured backs are well distributed. Then place the cards face down as a draw pile.
- Also set out paper and a pencil.
Attention (ACHTUNG): Before play begins, it is decided how long the players may take to convey a term. This time span should be chosen with the age of the youngest players in mind and should not be set too tight. Because the time span can vary a great deal, no hourglass is included with the game.
Gameplay (Spielablauf)
-
The players form two teams. Each team must have at least two players. Each team receives one elephant and places it on the green start space.
-
The team that opens the game chooses one player as the first "presenter". In the following rounds, the players within each team take turns as presenter.
-
The presenter of the first team draws a card from the pile. His task is to present the pictured term to the members of his own team so that they can guess it. The term to be presented must not be spoken aloud. The presenter may choose which method to use to convey the term:
- DRAWING: The term must be drawn with a pencil. The presenter may neither speak nor gesture. However, he may nod to his fellow players to show that they have guessed part of the term correctly.
- DESCRIBING: The term must be described in words, without using the word that is to be guessed.
- MIME: The term must be acted out by miming. The presenter may not speak or point at objects in the room. However, he may point at his own body parts.
Hint (HINWEIS): Before play begins, a particular method may also be specified, for example that all terms must be conveyed by drawing.
-
As soon as the presenter has begun presenting, his teammates may try to guess the term by calling out their suggestions.
-
If the team guesses the term within the agreed time span, it may move its elephant forward to the next space that has the same colour as the footprint on the card back.
-
If the term is not guessed, the elephant stays where it is and the card is set aside.
End of the Game (Spielende)
The team whose elephant first reaches the finish space wins the game.
The Cooperative Game (Das kooperative Spiel)
The setup is the same as for the game with two teams. At least three players together try to bring one elephant to the lake as quickly as possible.
- The starting player draws a card and tries to convey the pictured term to the other players.
- If a fellow player guesses the term, the elephant is moved to the next space that has the same colour as the footprint on the card back.
- The presenter then changes. The new presenter draws a card and tries to convey the new term.
- The game ends when the elephant reaches the finish space.
