The Hero Pack 2 box contains:

  • 1 colour rules book

  • 4 unique hero figures
  • 3 Event cards
  • 3 Mystery cards
  • 1 card each for the four Corner Location decks: The Manor, Olde Woods, Windmill and Abandoned Keep
  • 1 Villain card
  • 1 Villain Minion table

The sheet's running header, the designer credit and the translation credits are not reproduced.

New Cards

The expansion adds 10 new cards: 3 Event cards, 3 Mystery cards, and one card for each of the four Corner Location decks of Shadowbrook. Shuffle these cards into their respective decks.

New Heroes

The expansion adds four new heroes. Each has a unique hero figure matching a Hero Character Sheet:

  • Frederick Lyon
  • Sarah, Witch of the Sun
  • Jack Fellows
  • Abigail Sturn

Each hero's abilities are described on their Hero Character Sheet. The biographical profiles of the heroes are flavour text and are not reproduced here.

New Rule: Hero and Matching Ally Card

Some characters who were previously represented by an Ally card found in a Corner Location are now full heroes. An example is Abigail Sturn, whose Ally card belongs to the Tavern deck of the expansion Something Wicked. She now has a chance to play a more important role in saving the town from the supernatural Villain.

Instead of removing her Ally card from the game (or allowing it to be one of another hero's Allies at the same time), use the following rule.

If an Ally card is found whose "heroic" counterpart is already in play, remove that Ally card from the game and place that hero in the location where the card was found.

This models a situation in which one hero is called to join another. As a reward, both heroes gain 2 D6 clues each.

If a hero draws the Ally card of "their own" character (for example, the Abigail Sturn hero draws the Ally card "Abigail Sturn" from the Tavern deck), that hero gains 2 D6 clues instead. The hero has used their good knowledge of the area to obtain the information they need.

New Rule: Random Selection of a Town Elder

To select a Town Elder at random, take all the Elder tokens of the Elders that are alive and in play, place them in a cup, mix them, and draw one.

New Villain: The Reaper

The Reaper's profile on the sheet is flavour text and is not reproduced here. The villain's rules follow.

Grim Ghosts

Grim Ghosts are the only type of minion the Reaper has. They can be found in the set of additional tokens included in the base game. Note that you must make a roll for each ghost in play, so several Mystery cards may be resolved in a single Mystery Phase.

Soul Collector

The Reaper grows in power as he kills Elders. Each Elder who is due to join the villain flees the town (is removed from the game), and the Shadow Track marker moves 2 steps closer to Darkness, as if that Elder had been killed. (The sight of an Elder running for their life is very demoralising.)

Black Seal

The Reaper marks his victims before he kills them. Any token may be used to mark the Black Seal, which is placed on the Elders (for example, a large 5-wound token).

Traces of Decay

Wherever the Reaper goes, he leaves traces of decay and death behind him. For his ability "Desiccation (Иссушение)", use wound tokens. This is the most suitable solution, because when they move onto a hero, they become real wounds.

Translator's note: the English names "Grim Ghosts", "Soul Collector", "Black Seal", "Traces of Decay" and "Desiccation" are back-translated from the Russian section headings and ability name where no English form was available to check.

Frequently Asked Questions and Clarifications

Q. The Reaper looks like a ghost. Is he one?

A. No.

Q. Does the Reaper get +2 wounds for each Elder who flees the town?

A. No. Only for those he has killed.

Q. Sarah, Witch of the Sun, can use her "Protective Aura" ability. If a roll of 3+ fails, must she spend 2 clues?

A. Yes. You spend 2 clues to make the roll.

Q. If Sarah, Witch of the Sun, fights a villain that has both the "Magic" and "Demon" keywords, does she get +4 battle dice?

A. No. The effect of her "Witch" ability is not multiplied. She gets +2 battle dice.

Q. Is it possible for a hero to take 0 wounds from Lightning?

A. Yes. If you are in the location the lightning strikes, and the result of your d6 roll is 1, you take no wounds.

Q. Does the militia accompanying Frederick Lyon affect the composition of the Hunting Party, or the presence of another militia unit in his location?

A. No. The militia accompanying him is fully independent and is simply an additional bonus.

Q. If Abigail Sturn has a book that also has the "Occult" keyword, does she get +1 Cunning and an additional health token?

A. Yes.
