Contents of the Expansion

Ten Joker cards, numbered 0.0 to 0.9.

Setup

Before the game begins, each player randomly receives one of the ten Joker cards, in addition to their usual 10 cards, and adds it to their hand. If there are fewer than 10 players, the excess Joker cards are returned to the box.

Playing with Jokers

The base game rules of 6 qui prend apply normally, with these additional points:

  • When you play a Joker, you play it first into one of the rows, because it is always considered the lowest card. You may choose any row to place it in. The Joker simply increases the value of the previous card in that row. For example, a Joker 0.4 placed to the right of a 17 gives that row a value of 17.4.
  • If a player wants to place a card next to a Joker, rule no. 1 "Increasing values" and rule no. 2 "Smallest difference" (see the base game rules) apply normally.
  • Since the Joker is always considered the lowest card, a player may also pick up a row in order to start a new one. In this case, the Joker is placed as the first card of the new row (see also rule no. 4 "Lowest card" of the base game).
  • If more than one Joker is played in the same turn, the card with the lowest value is placed first into a row. For example, the "0.4" is placed before the "0.6".
  • A Joker cannot be placed next to another Joker!
  • If all rows end with a Joker, the player must pick up one row and start a new one with their Joker.

Variants

Two additional variants to spice up the base game or its Gold edition. For these two variants, the base game rules apply, except as stated in each variant below.

Variant 1: Pass It On!

Before each turn, each player chooses one card from their hand and passes it face down to the player on their left. That player may look at the card they received only after they have given one of their own cards to their left-hand neighbour.

Each turn is played as follows: first, you pass a card, then you look at the card you have just received. Once this step is complete, you choose a card from your hand as normal, place it face down, and everyone reveals their card simultaneously.

Exception: do not pass the last card of your hand; instead, place it directly into one of the rows.

Variant 2: Rows of Variable Length

The first card with several bull's heads to be placed into a row, regardless of its position, has an additional effect:

  • If a card with 2 bull's heads is placed into a row, only one more card may be placed after it in that row. The player who places the second card must pick up the whole row.
  • If a card with 3 bull's heads is placed into a row, only 2 more cards may be placed after it in that row. The player who places the third card must pick up the whole row.
  • If a card with 5 bull's heads is placed into a row, 4 more cards may be placed after it in that row. The player who places the fifth card must pick up the whole row.
  • When the card "55" is placed into a row, 6 more cards may be placed after it in that row. The player who places the seventh card must pick up the whole row.

Two important rules:

  • The additional effect of cards with several bull's heads applies only to the first card of this type to be placed into the row. If other cards with several bull's heads are placed into the row afterwards, these have no special effect. The effect also applies if it is the first card of the row.
  • Placing a card with bull's heads that has an effect only alters rule no. 3 "Completed row" (see the base game): all other rules are identical to those of the base game.

Example: The "11" has no special effect because it is not the first card with an effect to be placed in this row.

Note on the example (uncertain): the rest of the example could not be reliably put back in order from the scrambled text layer. The fragments that remain legible say that the "10" is the first card with an effect to be placed in the row; that the third card placed after it picks up the row; that the "20" picks up a row and becomes the first card of the new row, with its effect applying from the next turn; and that the "15" picks up a row. The exact sequence and attribution of these steps is not verified, so the full worked example is omitted here rather than guessed. See the original insert for the complete example.
