The Idea of the Game

Round by round, play one card and place it in one of five rows. If the row now contains either six cards or at least six bullheads of the same color, you've earned negative points. The excentric and highly flexible Baron Oxx can help you with your predicament, as he can go in any row. The player with the fewest negative points wins the game!

Components

110 cards (one each with values 1–110. Cards show bullheads in the colors blue, yellow, green, red, black, and white in varying numbers)

Setup

Shuffle all the cards and deal a number of them, depending on how many players there are:

Cards each2420161616121288

Don't look at your cards: Just place them in front of you in a face-down deck. This is your personal draw deck. Next, draw four cards from your deck and take them in hand.

Reveal five of the unused cards and place them face up in the middle of the table in a column. Each of these cards is the start of one row that you're going to add cards to over the course of the game.

Put all other cards back in the box. You won't need them for this game.

Example: The five rows at the start of the game.

Playing the Game

Playing a card

At the same time, each player picks one card from their hand and places it face down in front of them on the table. Once you've all made your choice, reveal the cards.

The player who has played the lowest number goes first and adds their card to one of the five rows. Next, the player with the second lowest card places theirs, and so on, until the player with the highest card has placed their card in one of the rows.

Drawing cards: Do not draw any new cards yet! Only draw cards from your personal draw deck after you've played all four cards from your hand; then draw four cards to form a new hand.

How to place your cards

You must always add your cards to the end of a row, to the right of the current right-most card.

When you do, note the following:

Color with color

You can only place your card in a row if the current last card in that row shows at least one bullhead that is the same color as one on your card. If there is more than one row matching this requirement, pick any one of them.

The numbers on the cards only determine the order in which you play your cards. They don't matter when it comes to placing your cards!

Example: (1) Wolfgang's card shows the lowest number, so he places it first. He could pick the second or fourth row and decides to add it to the fourth. (2) Uschi is next. She decides to add her card to the first row. (3) Because the first row is the only one where a black bullhead is at the end of the row, Michael must place his card there.

Cards number 52 and 104 show Baron Oxx. He has all six colors, so you can add him to any row of your choice.

Taking a Row

Rule 1: Sixth card

If you place the sixth card in a row, you must take the five cards from that row first. The card you played becomes the new first card for that row.

Rule 2: Six or more bullheads of the same color

When you place a card in a row and there are now six or more bullheads of the same color in it, you must take all cards to the left of the one you played. The card you played becomes the new first card for the row.

Example: (1) Uschi could add her card to the second or third row. She picks the second. (2) After Uschi has placed her card in the second row, Wolfgang can only add his card to the first row. There are now more than six black bullheads in that row, so he has to take it. His card becomes the new first card of the first row. (3) Michael is unlucky, too: His card can only go in the fifth row. He'll have to take that row, because there are now six cards in it. His card becomes the new first card of the fifth row.

Rule 3: No matching bullheads

You've played a card, but there are no bullheads of a matching color at the end of any of the rows? Take all cards from a row of your choice. The card you played becomes the new first card for that row.

Your Oxx Pile

If you have to take a row, place the cards in a face-up deck in front of you. This is your Oxx Pile.

Important: Don't add any cards you take to your hand or your personal draw deck!

Bullheads = Negative Points

Each card shows the number of negative points it's worth at the top, printed in red. It is equal to the number of bullheads shown on the card (6 negative points for Baron Oxx).

The End of the Game

Once you've all added your last cards to rows, the game ends. Take your Oxx Piles and count the bullheads on the cards. The player with the fewest negative points wins the game! If there is more than one player with the fewest points, they share the victory.

Alternatively, you can decide on a number of games you would like to play in advance. In this case, note down the negative points everyone has earned after each game.

Variant 1: It's the Color That Counts!

The rules remain the same except for "Rule 1: Sixth card", which is no longer in effect. This means that you'll only have to take rows when "Rule 2: Six or more bullheads of the same color" or "Rule 3: No matching bullheads" applies.

Variant 2: Bullheads = Positive Points

In this variant, the bullheads in your Oxx Piles don't count as negative points, but as positive ones.

The rules remain the same, with the following exceptions:

Rule 3: No matching bullheads

When you play a card that you can't add to any row, you must put that card underneath your draw deck, face down.

The end of the game

After at least one player has added their final card to a row, finish that round, then the game ends. Count the number of bullheads in your Oxx Piles. These are your victory points. If you still have cards in your draw decks or hands, each bullhead on these cards is a negative point.

The player with the most points wins the game.
