What's in the Box
- 5 flower cards
- 45 wooden flies
- 2 number dice with ten faces
- 6 extendable fly swatters
- 42 fly cards
Card Types
There are two different types of cards: cards showing flowers or flies.
The five flower cards show a colored number between 1 and 10 on each side. This number refers to the times table you are playing with.
On the front of each fly card there is a number. This number is the result of possible multiplications shown on the back of the fly card.
The different colors of the multiplications correspond to the colors of the flowers, that is to say to their corresponding times table.
Before You Start
Before starting the game, choose a number between 1 and 10 and place the corresponding flower face-up in the center of the table.
Next, select the ten flies that display a multiplication in the same color as your flower. Arrange these flies face-up at random around the flower.
Each player takes a fly swatter and adjusts the length to suit them. Get the wooden flies and one die ready. The remaining game material is not needed and is returned to the game box.
Example game setup with 7 times table.
Let's Get Started
Take turns playing in a clockwise direction. Who can buzz the most like a fly? You go first and roll the die.
You all play at once. Multiply the number appearing on the die with the number of the flower and search for the right fly. Whoever spots it, hits it quickly with the fly swatter.
If another player thinks that the right fly has not yet been found, they can continue to search.
Watch out! Each player may use their fly swatter only once per round and must put it down once they have touched a fly.
As soon as all players have placed their fly swatter on a fly or think that the right fly has been found, check the results.
Checking
- Turn over all the flies on which a fly swatter has been placed.
- Take a look at the multiplication tables and search for the one that shows the number and color of the flower as well as the number on the die. This one is the fly with the correct result.
- The player who was first to place the fly swatter on the right fly gets a wooden fly as a reward.
- If no player has hit the right fly, no-one gets a wooden fly.
Afterwards turn all the flies face-up again and take back your fly swatters.
It's the next player's turn to roll the die. A new round starts.
When Does the Game End?
The game ends as soon as a player has collected their eighth wooden fly. You win the game and are a master of multiplication!
Advanced Variant
Play according to the basic game, except for the following variations:
- Lay out the 42 flies in the center of the table.
- The flowers are not needed in this variation and are kept in the box.
- Play with both dice by multiplying the two numbers appearing on them!
Who will accept this challenge and go down in history as a fly-swatting times-tables genius?
