Nickelplate Variant (English translation)

The Nickelplate Variant is a variant of 1830. The rules of the base game remain unchanged.

Three new railway companies come into play:

  • Nickelplate Railway: starts on hex F6
  • Canadian National: starts on hex B10
  • Northern & Western R.: starts on hex K15

The starting station for the C&O is moved to hex K13.

The game board is changed as follows:

A) The top row of hexes of the additional board section is placed on row "K" of the game board. B) The hex section with the starting station of the NR goes on hex F6. C) The hex section with the starting station of the CN goes on hex B10.

One track tile numbered 53 and one numbered 61 are removed from the game. The two remaining track tiles can only still be used for Boston. For the upgrade of Baltimore, two new track tiles come into play.

The number of locomotives is increased by two 4-trains, one 6-train and two 7-trains. The diesel locomotives of 1830 are exchanged for the enclosed diesel locomotives, which have a lower price. The 7-trains become available after the first 6-train is bought. The diesel locomotives can be acquired after the first 7-train is bought. The 4-trains leave the game after the first 7-train is bought.

Transcription notes

  • The sheet is a photocopy of a printed insert; all text was legible in the photo. No passage was illegible.
  • The printed German contains typos, reproduced as printed in the German original: "wie wie" (Der Spielplan wird wie wie folgt verändert) and "Bosten" (for Boston). "Bosten" is translated as Boston, the only plausible reading.
  • The sheet's sentence about the 7-trains reads "Die 7er-Loksel sind nach dem Kauf der ersten 6er-verfügbar" in the photo, which is garbled. The German original above is given as read from the photo ("7er-Loks" and "6er-Lok"). The translation follows the most plausible reading, "after the first 6-train is bought"; check against the physical insert if an exact match is needed.
