Game Set Up
-
Shuffle the Cards, deal 3 Cards face-down to each Player. Players may pick up their Cards and rotate their Cards how they would like in the beginning of the game.
-
Deal each player 16 Licorice Pieces, or replace all these Pieces with a real candy of your choice! This will act as each Player's Health Pool.
If using Licorice Pieces, do not eat them for penalties, just discard them.
-
Deal the youngest Player the First Player Marker.
The First Player Marker will move clockwise every new round.
-
Put the remaining Card pile face down in the center of the table. This is the Draw Pile.
-
Flip one Card over from the Draw Pile and place it face up next to the Draw Pile, this is the Discard Pile.
Sample Card rotation.
Card Layout
- Top half Penalty Candy amount.
- Top half Candy type and color.
- Bottom half Candy type and color.
- Bottom half Penalty Candy amount.
Note: Cards have 2 halves to them, only the top half will be considered when scoring a round.
On your turn, you may rotate Cards in your hand to be any orientation you want.
Game Play
Goal: Each player's goal is to match the most Candies of the same type on the top half of their 3 Cards. Players can achieve this by drawing, discarding and rotating Cards throughout the game on their turn.
On a Players turn they may Draw and can optionally Call.
Draw: Draw the top Card from the Draw Pile or Discard Pile to your hand, then discard 1 Card.
Call: If you think you have a Higher Hand than at least one other Player, say "I'VE GOT CANDY!"
Opponents then get one final turn before everyone reveals their Cards. The Player(s) with the Lowest Hand must discard or eat the total number of Penalty Candies denoted on the top left corner of their Cards.
In this example, if the Player loses they would have to discard or eat 6 Candies.
A round will not end until someone calls, "I've Got Candy!"
To begin a new round after someone calls, "I'VE GOT CANDY!", score the round based on everyone's Cards, shuffle them and then deal 3 to each Player.
Don't Forget to move the First Player Marker each new round, the Player with the First Player Marker will begin the new round.
When a Player Calls "I've Got Candy"!
- Highest Hand, Including Ties: The Player that called, "I've Got Candy!" adds 2 Candy to their Health Pool.
- Middle Hand, including ties: The Player who called, "I've Got Candy!" loses 1 Candy.
- Lowest Hand: The Player who called, "I've Got Candy!" loses their Cards Penalty Candy amount plus an additional 1 Candy.
- Lowest Hand (Tie): Only the Player who called, "I've Got Candy!" loses their Cards Penalty Candy amount, plus an additional 1 Candy.
Example 1: Player 1 has called "I've Got Candy!". Player 2 and Player 3 had 1 more turn to make their hand better, after which, all Players revealed their hand.
Player 1 has 13 Gummy Bears. Player 2 has 9 Pieces of Chocolate. Player 3 has 8 Candy Corn.
Player 1 called "I've Got Candy!" and has the highest hand so they will win the round. They will get to add two Candy pieces to their Health Pool.
Player 2 has the middle hand so nothing happens to them.
Player 3 has the worst hand, so they must take the Penalty Candy amount shown in the top left corner of each Card in their hand.
Depending if Players are playing with Licorice Pieces or real Candy, Player 3 must discard or eat 4 Candies from their Health Pool of Candies.
Example 2: Player 1 has called "I've Got Candy!". Player 2 and Player 3 had 1 more turn to make their hand better, after which, all Players revealed their hand.
Player 1 has 9 Pieces of Chocolate. Player 2 has 13 Gummy Bears. Player 3 has 9 Heart Candies.
Player 1 called "I've Got Candy!" and is tied for the lowest hand. This means, they alone must take the top left corner of each of their Cards, plus 1 additional Penalty Candy for being wrong.
Depending if Players are playing with Licorice Pieces or real Candy, Player 1 must discard or eat 5 Candies from their Health Pool of Candies.
Player 2 has the best hand, but did not call, "I've Got Candy!", so nothing happens to them.
Player 3 was tied for last, but since the Player they were tied with is the one who called, "I've Got Candy!", nothing happens to them.
When a Player Didn't Call "I've Got Candy"!
- Highest Hand, Including Ties: Nothing Happens.
- Middle Hand, including Ties: Nothing Happens.
- Lowest Hand (Including Ties, unless tie is with the Player who called "I'VE GOT CANDY"): Take Card Penalty Candy amount.
Instant Round Win
An Instant Round Win is triggered whenever a Player has three Cards of the same Candy type, with 4, 5, and 6 Candies on the Cards. When this happens, that Player reveals their hand immediately and they win the round.
Opponents must immediately reveal their hand, they may NOT rotate the Cards in hand before revealing in an attempt to mitigate their potential Penalty Candy amount.
Instant round winning hand example.
Wild Card
This is a Wild Card, it will count as three of any Candy Type that you declare at the end of a round.
The orientation of this Card in your hand does not matter. The penalty associated with this Card is 2 Penalty Candies.
