Cards Rencontre (Encounter)
Each card Rencontre shows cultural information, a mission (for example, 3 Industrial heritage symbols), and a reward (for example, 5 points).
Setup
-
Sort the cards into three piles: Nord, Sud, and Rencontre. Shuffle each pile separately.
-
Place the Nord and Sud piles in the centre of the table, with the Nord pile above the Sud pile.
- Draw 4 cards from the Nord pile and place them next to it, to form a row of cards. Do the same with the Sud pile, so there are 2 rows of 4 cards – one above the other.
-
Place the Rencontre draw pile within easy reach of all players.
- Each player draws 3 cards Rencontre. Place 2 in your hand and return 1 to the bottom of the draw pile.
Tip: Use the cards that are already on the table to help you choose your first 2 missions.
-
Each player receives 4 Step tokens.
-
Turn over the game box and place the wooden meeple on Day 1 of the day counter track.
How to Play
A game of 15 JOURS en France comprises 15 rounds, during which players pick up cards Lieu that match the stages of their journey through France. 1 round is equal to 1 day.
The player who travelled to France most recently starts the game. They are also in charge of moving the wooden meeple along the day counter track. Before this player takes their turn, they must advance the meeple one place. The game begins on Day 1.
Players take turns in clockwise order.
Player Actions
If there are cards missing from any row at the start of your gameturn, you must fill the rows with cards from the corresponding draw pile. Then perform 1 of the following 3 actions:
1. Travel
Pick up 1 of the 8 cards Lieu from the table. Pay the number of Step tokens shown (if any) and receive the symbols and reward.
Cards Lieu rewards:
- +1 (Step tokens icon): Receive the number of Step tokens shown
- (Lieu card icon): Perform another Travel action
- (Rencontre card icon): Perform an Rencontre action
- (Smiley icon): At the end of the game, add these smileys to your victory points
2. Rencontre
Draw 2 cards from the Rencontre draw pile and place them in your hand.
Then choose 1 card from your hand and place it on the bottom of the draw pile. You can thus discard a card Rencontre acquired during a previous turn.
Cards Rencontre contain missions. If you complete the mission you receive victory points.
Card Rencontre missions:
- + (symbol) icon: Have more of a particular symbol than any other player.
- x6 (symbol) icon: Have at least a certain number of a particular symbol.
- Smiley / house icon: Receive 1 victory point per symbol shown. If you do not score any points, you fail the mission.
- Water drop with slash icon: Do not have any of a particular symbol.
- 8 (footprints) icon: Have 8 Step tokens at the end of the game.
- x6 (Lieu Nord card) icon: Have 6 cards Lieu from a particular draw pile.
- x3 (smiley) icon: Have 3 cards Lieu that earn smileys.
3. Recover
Use your turn to receive 4 Step tokens.
When one of these actions is completed, your gameturn is over.
Change of Route
At the start of Days 4, 8 and 12, before the first player starts their gameturn, remove the cards Lieu from each row and return them to the bottom of their respective draw piles. Draw and place new cards Lieu to form new rows of cards.
End of the Game and Scoring
At the end of the 15th round, players reveal their cards Rencontre one by one and count up the victory points on them.
To determine victory points, players must sum up:
- Smileys on cards Rencontre, if the mission was successful.
- Smileys on cards Lieu.
If all your missions were successful, receive 1 bonus point for each card Rencontre.
The player with the most points is the winner.
In case of a tie, the player with the most Step tokens is the winner. If there's still a tie, victory is shared.
