  • 50 Mosquito cards (5 colors, 10 cards per color)
  • 1 Window card
  • 4 Player aids
  • 1 SleepKid board
  • 1 Sleep face marker
  • 4 Human Defense tokens

Objective

Skillfully arrange the mosquitoes to dodge human attacks and escape.

The player with the lowest total number on their swatted mosquito cards wins.

Setup

A. Players choose mosquito cards of a color as their hand.

In a 2-player game, each player removes one card with the number 2.

B. Place the SleepKid board at the center of the table, stacking the Sleep face marker on top to indicate SleepKid is asleep.

C. Shuffle the four Human Defense tokens face down, then reveal one and place it near SleepKid.

D. Place the window card to the side as the Safe Area.

E. The player who was most recently bitten by a mosquito becomes the first player.

F. The number of queues depends on the number of players:

PlayersQueuesCard Limit per Queue
2–324
4–534

How to Play

From the first player, take turns clockwise to play one mosquito card (face down, placing it in any queue with fewer than 4 cards). Player may choose one of the two "Additional Actions" to perform either before or after playing the card:

  • A. Peek at one card on the table.
  • B. Move the card at the front of a queue to the back of the same queue.

The mosquito card backs feature illustrations distributed among numbers 3, 4, and one 5, offering hints at a glance!

If you forget your cards in play, you can choose to use an "Additional Action" to check them.

Players can forgo their "Additional Action" to "Wake up" SleepKid, but only if each queue has at least two mosquito cards. This must be done before they play their card, and SleepKid will start "swatting mosquitoes." The player who wakes SleepKid takes the Sleep face marker.

If all queues are filled with 4 mosquito cards, SleepKid automatically wakes up and begins "swatting mosquitoes." In this case, the next player, following the one who just played a card, obtains the Sleep face marker and may still perform an "Additional Action" during their turn.

The Sleep face marker is a reminder of whose turn it is to play next.

Wake-up examples (from the rulebook diagrams):

  • 3-player game: each queue has 2 cards—you may wake SleepKid.
  • 5-player game: each queue has 4 cards—SleepKid is waking up!

"Swatting Mosquitoes"

Each queue is handled individually, flipping mosquito cards from inside to outside. Stop flipping when the total sum of the card numbers reaches or exceeds 10 (this applies to all queues). The total sum determines how SleepKid swats mosquitoes in that queue.

  • i) Total less than 10: Barehanded swatting. Swat the mosquito card with the highest number. (Go for the biggest one!)
    • If multiple cards have the highest number, all of them will be swatted.
  • ii) Total equals 10: Swing and miss. All mosquitoes survive. (An unexpected stroke of luck?!)
  • iii) Total greater than 10: Grab a Human Defense. Follow the indicated queue order (Roman numerals) to swat mosquitoes. (Different Human Defenses bring different effects.)

Mosquito cards that are swatted are placed face-up in front of the player. Cards that escape are moved to the Safe Area. Unflipped cards are moved closer to SleepKid.

Diagram examples:

  • Total < 10: Swat the mosquito with the highest number. (2+1+3=6)
  • Total > 10: Use Human Defense to swat at positions 1st & 2nd. (1+5+5=11)
  • Total = 10: All mosquitoes escape to the Safe Area. (4+4+2=10)

Next round: Flip over a new Human Defense token and shuffle the old one back into the pile. The player who took the Sleep face marker returns it (SleepKid goes back to sleep) and proceeds to play their card.

Game End

Daybreak! After players have played all their cards, SleepKid wakes up and begins "swatting mosquitoes" repeatedly until every mosquito card is flipped. If only one mosquito remains in a queue, it escapes safely and flies away!

Add up the numbers on the mosquito cards you were swatted as your penalty points. The player with the fewest penalty points wins! The player with the most penalty points... it's okay, you're just not great at being a mosquito.

About Mosquitoes

Do you know? Mosquitoes are the deadliest animals to humans! According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, West Nile fever, yellow fever, chikungunya, and Zika virus infections cause over 700,000 deaths annually.

Improving daily environments, such as removing stagnant water and reducing mosquito breeding grounds, is the first effective step in preventing disease-carrying mosquitoes. Regularly checking overlooked corners near your home might help eliminate a potential mosquito hotspot.

In short, don't underestimate the threat of mosquitoes!
