Auto Pilot moves are not actions, so you can pass borders and use gates on other players' turns. It also applies after your own turn, which is handy for getting a Business Phase on a planet and then moving on. Getting Stranded only stops that turn's movement; an Auto Pilot you already activated keeps applying until your next turn, but you cannot activate it while stranded.
