How many shield dice do I roll if I spend several Armed Markers on a Shield?

Each Marker on a Shield use space gives one die, and all the dice are added together to absorb the attack. Attackers work the same way: declare several Markers as one big attack rather than several small ones, because a defender can re-arm between separate attacks. Defenders usually spend all they can, since re-arming afterwards costs only a little Energy.
