Can I play Wingspan Asia without the base game, and for how many players?
The rulebook's introduction states the stand-alone player counts, and its Flock section requires the base game.

Yes, but only for 1 or 2 players. Asia is a stand-alone game for solo (with the Automa) or Duet mode with two players. For 3 to 5 players you need the base game's components, and adding the base game also unlocks Flock mode for 6 or 7. Asia is the third Wingspan expansion but is sold as a stand-alone box, so it behaves like the base game at 1-2 players and like an expansion beyond that.
