Do I have to accomplish a mission as soon as I meet its requirements?
The designer answered this directly on BGG. It matches the rulebook.

No. The step is marked optional, so you can claim a mission on a later turn or never. This can matter to avoid triggering an effect, such as a virus in Adventure #6, or to avoid ending the game. The online implementation that forced it was reversed.
