Which tokens do I lose when my shields take damage?
The publisher confirmed only discarded tokens are removed and they leave the game, matching the rulebook.

For each point of damage to your shields (not your hull), you remove one token from your discard pile from the game. Tokens in your hold, pool or on enemies are never eligible. If your discard has too few tokens, remove as many as you can; if it is empty, you lose nothing. Hull damage costs no tokens, and removed tokens are gone for good.
