When I take a Manuscript, do I get its immediate effect, even if a second Manuscript is involved?
The rulebook states this plainly.

Yes. The immediate (lightning) effect resolves when you acquire it, and if an effect lets you take a second Manuscript with a lightning effect, that also resolves.
