A card granting three attempts gives three separate attempts, and locks you have opened stay open for later attempts; you can open one lock per roll, in Lever, Trip, Force order. On Fish & Ships the HP cost is not a flat 1 per attempt: later attempts seem to cost more, but the thread does not settle the exact amount.
