What happens to rescue cards I played but did not use?
The designer ruled that played rescue cards are discarded regardless of basket use, and the rulebook says unused played cards go to the discard pile.

Every rescue card you reveal is discarded at the end of the rescue phase, used or not, including half baskets and boots-only cards. Cards you never revealed stay in your hand.
