Smaug's section has 13 spaces, filled by counterattacks (your black number hits an already saved or destroyed house) and by the Special Gandalf Ability, which fills any number. You can spend swords to shift your black number by 1 each, up to 13, and you must adjust to get a 13. Each player starts with 5 swords.
