If buying a Work makes its Artist a Celebrity, can I put that Work in the 4th Gallery slot?
The designer confirmed this several times, and the rulebook's buy steps put the Fame increase before display.

Yes. The Artist's Fame rises when you buy, before the Work is placed, so it is already a Masterpiece when you display it and can take the 4th slot, even if you had no Masterpiece before. This also works for buying a commissioned Work from a Celebrity while your first three slots are full.
