If an item in a stack says to discard it after use, what is discarded?
The publisher said only the discarding card goes and the die decreases as normal.

Only that card, such as the Bolas. The rest of the stack stays and its die drops by one as usual. If you activate the stack but do not use the discarding effect, nothing is discarded.
