Do expansion cards need separate piles, or can I mix them into the main game?

Mix them in. Expansion cards sort into the matching main decks and aren't tied to a threat; they appear only when a scenario or effect calls for them. Only Edge of Peril needs setup, and only the new Season 2 dialogue book depends on The First Garden threat. Duplicate numbers are normal: green before gold, and banner cards used for their scenario.
