Do I pay the cost of the Discovery tile a Shadow of Xitle Starting tile lets me claim?
The Shadow of Xitle rulebook's tile text says so, and a forum reply agrees.

Yes. The Starting tile that lets you claim a random Discovery tile says to do so by paying its cost, so costs such as wood still apply. The exception is the Starting tile with two Worship actions, which explicitly waives the 1 cocoa for taking both the Worship space ability and the Discovery tile.
