What do the 2x6 and 2x7 Starting tiles do?
The Shadow of Xitle rulebook gives the tile text; a forum reply reads the wording as optional.

Both are optional. The Starting tile that advances on the orange temple lets you place two of your starting workers on the Nobles (6) board, and the Technology Starting tile lets you place two of your starting workers on the Decorations/Architecture (7) board. Because the text says may, you are not forced to use it.
