What happens if I lose the F1 finale combat in normal mode?

Restart F1 with the standard defeat reset: crew health restored, statuses and fatigue removed, used command cleared, and you gain 7 command plus 1 per player. You can spend XP on level cards before the retry, and the designer suggests moving on to F2 if you cannot win.
