Is playing a card mandatory on your turn?
The rulebook describes a turn as placing a card; forum posters agree it is compulsory when possible.

Yes. If you can legally place a Clan card, you must place one each turn. You may skip only when no Clan card is playable (all your open stones are full, or you hold only Tactic cards, in the Tactic variant).
