Where does a newly earned track colour go, and can it be placed straight on space 1?
The rulebook says new tracks are placed beside each railroad and placed by advancing.

Newly earned tracks (gray, brown, natural, white) sit beside the left of each railroad until you advance them. Only the black tracks start on space 1. The first advancement of a new colour places it on space 1 of that railroad, and it can only move onto an empty space without passing the track ahead.
