Must I use a factory's ability when my industry marker lands on it?
The rulebook says to use the ability immediately and cancels it only if impossible.

Yes, if you can. The ability is used immediately, and if it can't be used at that time the effect is cancelled while the marker stays on the factory. A few players treat it as optional, but the rulebook text says it must be used.
