Does the colour of an explorer matter, for example Alien Research Ship's yellow one?
The designer ruled on this directly in a BGG post.

Rarely. The colour of an explorer matters only for a few Explore powers that reward an Alien (yellow) explorer, for example a starting faction that pays $4 instead of $2 when you Stock with a yellow explorer. That is why Alien Research Ship names yellow. Otherwise the colour is irrelevant.
