Can I spend a potion before I would be forced to lose it?

Not under the current (v2) rules: if you must lose a potion you immediately discard it unused, and if it was your only potion that can mean a corruption. The older v1 community FAQ said you could spend items before losing them (only on your own turn), and that ruling is now out of date.
