Can you convert Pearls out of turn to pay for Life loss or a React?

Only when you use one of your own React powers or respond to a React condition, such as a Dragon's attack. You may then convert Pearls and decide whether to pay the ignore cost or just take the loss, since reacts are optional. Against an attack with no React condition and no React power of yours, such as a Fire Demon, you cannot convert and must pay from your pool.
