If I decline the Mayor action, can I still take the Mayor's privilege colonist?
The rulebook words the privilege colonist as a separate "may" but does not rule on this combination; the forum reading is only partly agreed.

Yes, most players read it that way: the privilege colonist from the supply is separate from the action of taking colonists from the ship, and each is optional. A minority argues that declining the action should also decline the privilege.
